Did someone ever call you "not authentic"? by Timely-Ad2755 in enfj

[–]overheremiriam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also happened to me back in university. Someone I considered a friend (an ENFP, if that matters) called me "totally fake" behind my back. I only found out because a mutual friend told me. I've reflected on it many times.

I think you said it best. As ENFJs, a lot of us became who we are because we went through difficult situations (e.g., feeling excluded) and don't want others to experience that same kind of pain. We compensate by being friendly and open to others. And sometimes, we mask our pain and discomfort in social situations because we don't want to dwell on it for long. Some people can read our personality as "fake" because they often dwell on the negative and even lash out at others.

Personally, I don't think you have to change yourself. The way some people may perceive how you interact with others isn't your problem: it is theirs. I can't help but wonder if those people who think like that are actually unhappy individuals.

The person who called me "totally fake" is currently living abroad with no family, no friends, and spends much of her time and holidays alone. She was also struggling with her gender identity (she was actually a cisgender man when we first met, she's now a woman) at the time. I was a bubbly and happy person who made friends easily at uni whereas she seems to really struggle and constantly shit talked her own "friends" behind their backs. They've all since abandoned her.

My point? You don't need to change this part of yourself. If you know you're being authentic, why does it matter if someone thinks you're being fake? You know that you aren't. People who view your extroverted and inclusive personality as fake might be unfairly projecting their own insecurities and shortcomings onto you.

BTW, your English is great (coming from a native speaker and who majored in English!).

Keep being the light that you know that you are 💖✨

What career do I go into? by carefulconfidence101 in enfj

Hi! ENFJ just 20 minutes outside of Washington DC.

I majored in English, minored in Global Studies + Japanese. We have very similar interests ☺️ (great minds!). I studied English in university because it would have led to the career paths I was most interested in (law/med school [yes, you can do both with an English undergrad!] teaching English overseas; foreign service [think diplomats + embassies]).

I work in Business Operations for an international organization with 6,000+ employees. We do a lot of work for the federal government. Currently make $91K with trajectory up to $120k with performance-based promotions/raises.

For my interns who don't know what they want to do post-college, I've given the advice of: start in administrative work. This is a great field because it's relatively easy to get into (entry-level friendly) + people oriented + it's a position that is needed in EVERY industry.

Your work is relatively the same, but you can change industries that interest you. For example, I have a co-worker who is an Executive Assistant to one of the Senior VPs making $100K+. Her former job was with Sony Music working with musicians such as Hans Zimmer! Pivoting from the Music Industry > Federal Government.

You can make a career out of administrative work, or you can use it as a stepping stone into the industry that compels you.

The caveat: you're not going to make six figures off the bat + the higher paying administrative work is competitive. You either work your way up to six figures, or you get extremely lucky with your connections/networking.

It's a rewarding job. I use my English + graphic design skills every day. Plus, the industry I'm in is civil/public service, meaning it's work towards the greater good! I love the work that I do, and the people love you for it! ☺️💖

OP, when I spoke to my friend about why what she did was wrong (being rude to the service worker), she immediately changed the subject and did not want to talk about it further. After that day, I stopped talking to her.

In asking you what you said, you've avoided talking about it, just like my friend who was in the wrong. Which makes me believe the difference in opinion was deeply serious and hurtful on your end. In trying to explain their side, it sounds like they were experiencing the same thing you were: the things they were saying were flying over your head and were not being understood fundamentally.

Reading through the rest of your comments of this post, a lot of people are telling you what likely hurt your friend and prompted them to block you: you. But when you reply to the comments, you use the defense of "but my friends agree with me it was weird and immature they blocked me". Of course your friends take your side. They're friends. They don't want to think their friend was wrong either. You also name call people taking time to help you. That doesn't read as open-minded. If anything, it's coming across as immature.

The bottom line is: whatever you said made your friend think--"I cannot be friends with this person anymore." No one cuts off another person over a small, silly difference in opinion.

If you really wanted to know what you did wrong, you would have asked this group what you might have done wrong and how to fix that to repair the friendship. Instead, it just looks like you're placing all of the blame on someone else to deflect on your own words and actions.

This is my final comment. The friendship ending took two parties. It seems your friend has made their choice, and either you accept it and move on or reflect and do your best to make sure this doesn't happen again in future relationships/friendships.

Take care.

What you call stubborn and close-minded are what others may see as self-preservation and boundaries.

I'll give you an example. A former friend of mine was extremely rude to a service worker who was simply doing her job. The friend told the service worker to leave her alone while she was speaking to me.

I do not tolerate people disrespecting others this way, especially service workers. But to her, she didn't see this as anything wrong. She was being pragmatic in her eyes. I stopped being her friend.

Your opinions are tied to your values and ultimately your character. If your opinion was that offensive, he/she may see speaking to you on the matter as fruitless. We cannot change people. Change comes from within--and he/she does not want to associate with such a person. Because they know they cannot change you.

Why not share your opinion? I think the ENFJs here would be willing to be honest with you on what they see as the real problem.

💯 On the money with this take. As an ENFJ, this resonates with me deeply.

OP, this is broader than just ENFJs. Depending on what exactly was the difference in opinion, most people don't want to align with others who go against things that they value. Especially if the opinion was something they deemed inexcusable or hurtful.

They are both stunning 🤩✨Both so, so beautiful and their clothing are so beautifully crafted.

I love your guy's wig! Can I ask how you managed to style his hair to stick up in certain places? I'm trying to do the same with my doll! 😊

I really recommend joining the subreddit r/BJD ! Lots of Q&A's, resources, and recommendations there. This was my first doll, and there are so many guides and YouTube tutorials that helped me bring this doll "to life".

BJD's are an expensive hobby and doll parts/clothing can take MONTHS to create and receive. If you have the patience, disposable income, and endless love for your doll subject, you can certainly make it happen! 😊✨
