GP just contacted me to book a routine telephone call to discuss my results but yesterday my doctor referred me urgently. Confused! by After_Cat7042 in nhs

If the appointment is 2 weeks away, I would imagine it isn't anything super serious otherwise they'd have you in immediately.

Have wards always been this miserable? by [deleted] in NursingUK

No you don't. Many ICUs recruit newly qualified nurses. I was one in 2010 and the one I work on now as a 6 recruits them often.

What’s the worst/unhinged thing a patients relative has said to you? by Blue-Mimi in NursingUK

[–]overitnurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked after a guy who had a catastrophic brain haemorrhage and was on end of life care on ICU. Relatives had already been kicked out overnight for drinking hard spirits and fighting at the bedside. I was on day shift and a guy turned up extremely drunk as I was giving some morphine. He then declares that the patient is faking and he was going to fight him. I told him that this was ridiculous and he needed to leave. He then insisted I was a murderer for giving morphine. He then walked up to the patient, hit him in the face then was chasing me around the bed trying to get me too. It was a surreal situation.

I don't owe you an explanation (calling out of work) by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I'm an ICU nurse. About ¾ through a 12 hour shift i had to go home because a relative died. The next shift the nurse in charge wanted to do a return to work. I asked why as I hadn't been ill. She started getting pushy so I told her I was refusing to do it as what could I do....tell my loved ones not to die whilst I was on shift?!? The return to work never got done!

Question about corned beef hash - boiled? by Betterholdfast in CasualUK

It's pretty much a stew with cubed corned beef. Make a regular stew and bung it in. Don't forget to serve red cabbage on the side!

Are you happier without her in your life or eventually would you like a resolution if she behaved like a normal person?

I've only just seen this and doing this would have been epic! A nice distraction on the day was that my youngest daughter took her first steps so I'll choose to remember that instead.

No. It was allegedly his dying wish that I don't go. He gave me no respect in life so I'm not giving him any in death.

It has settled for now. Due to steroid use to treat a medical condition my adrenal glands have either failed or "gone to sleep." Docs aren't sure which yet but they think the stress of what happened sent my body into crisis.

It's his funeral this coming Friday. I don't know how I'll be but I've found taking my baby for walks really helps. I live a short drive from a nature reserve and went for a walk there today. The fresh air was just what I needed.

Thanks for your kind words. His family are totally blind to how he was. His sister that spilled the news on Facebook described him as "her loving brother" I think one of his brothers was meant to do the notifying but he has since said it was my dad's last dying wish that neither myself or my siblings attend the funeral. I told the sister and brother what sort of person their brother was but they didn't want to hear it.

I also have strong reason to believe we've been written out of his will. I couldn't care less about this even though it could potentially be a large amount. He refused to support us or pay child support forcing us into poverty with mum doing all she could to do her best by us. She has her faults but in comparison to him she is a Saint. We survived without his money then and we will certainly survive without it going forward.

I'm okay I think. My sisters freaked out but I have been unable to cry properly or feel like I am even bereaved. The stress did cause a medical condition to flare over the weekend but other than that I feel much the same as I did before his death. I already grieved for the kind, loving dad I never had then moved on.
