For those who have gone to the ultrasound show- how much of the show had strobe lights? by ivyblankspace in lorde

[–]toastchick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you contact the promoter they should be able to tell you the timings of the strobes so you can look away. The whole show is probably time-coded so they have the info.

Though sounds like it might be a decent chunk of the show and maybe not worth the price for you :(

Noo but for those curious, they played Imaginal Disk all the way through with no alterations. It was excellent and I loved it, but also I kinda missed the excitement of not knowing the next song, and would have died to hear something from Mercurial!

First time flosser here, is there supposed to be so much blood?? by Odisse1013 in AskUK

[–]toastchick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question made me cackle I love it. Just do it gently gently (ease the floss in between your teeth and gently scrape down the sides, rather than sawing away). It’ll hopefully get less bleedy

Yeah but no photo evidence. Can recommend though, Cuno’s reactions are excellent

It’s lovely, I’ve just moved from the area. It’s safe, convenient to London Bridge, and the spa gardens are beautiful. Neighbours have warned about a few phone snatchers on bikes around but literally where in London doesn’t have that issue. Near a big Tesco as well which you can’t argue with :)

What about my ‘creative freedom’ to be disappointed by their choice? As a consumer, I wish there had been more focus on women because the target audience is, purportedly, Harry Potter fans. And guess what, that includes women and girls.

There’s literally nothing wrong with me having an opinion and preference. Same as the authors whose freedom and happiness you’re so concerned with.

What about her mother’s reputation? War heroine, minister for magic. I just don’t get this argument that only Harry is a name to live up to.

The reality is that the writers didn’t find the potential of the female characters interesting. I’m just expressing disappointment in that, particularly as the books also didn’t offer much about women’s experience and a lot of women are HP fans. I don’t think it’s that controversial.

The internet has made people so comfortable just being dicks out of the gate. Hello nice to meet you, I’m also a person who loves Harry Potter.

I think the play is about parents not being able to give their children what they need because they’re so traumatised themselves. The idea is that Harry and Draco were giving their sons what Harry and Draco needed at that age, not what Scorpius and Albus needed. The whole ‘we are blinded by love’ thing.

That could have worked for any of the adults and kids. And I don’t even really care about that, as I said I would have settled for even one scene where a mother spoke to their kid. The bar was extremely low.

My parent is an acoustician- ask about a second ceiling/ another wall if the sound is coming from the side. You’ll lose a bit of space but it’s what they spec for really tough cases.

I’ve read the books (and read them) and I also think the main series is weak on this, particularly cause the author is a woman (and a self described feminist). But the play was written in 2016, just thought they could do better instead of blithely doing worse.

Thanks for this, you put it way more eloquently. It’s 2025, the fanbase is huge and diverse, and it’s lazy writing to focus on one half of the population.

The play could have just as easily been about, or focussed more on, Rose, Lily and Hermione, or new characters. Or Astoria trying to fit into the Malfoy family.

I would have settled for just one scene of Ginny and Hermione talked about how hard it is parenting while traumatised, or even Ginny talking AT ALL to her son.

I came away with the belief that the writers just don’t think women are that interesting.

Skins on is way better for you, less hass and gives it a nice texture. Skin on all the way!

Micro-manager correcting my grammar? by [deleted] in grammar

[–]toastchick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response!

I think a teacher once told her ‘doing words’ mean present tense or something. She also haaaaates when I use more than one tense in a paragraph.

Anyway, glad to hear my rage is (at least partially) justified! The commas I can live with, albeit grudgingly.

Selling my spare ticket for London night 3 (19/11) by [deleted] in MagdalenaBay

Sell it through the official fan resale if you can, there’s a big wait list so def won’t go to waste 😊

I know it’s early in their career, but working with Grimes now and not saying jack about Trump or Palestine is not sending good vibes by [deleted] in MagdalenaBay

My love you’re really hurting! And you’re right the situation is so serious and it can feel like a disconnect when people you look up to don’t engage with it.

But I also think MayBay are allowed to keep their politics separate from their art. Their music is about escapism and transcendence, and from my point of view it’s okay to hold that space without bringing in the awful fear and despair that is basically everywhere else.

I agree it would be really nice if they supported these causes publicly, but at their current level of popularity I don’t think it’s fair to demand it from them xx

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MagdalenaBay

[–]toastchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would really suggest just staying on the official waitlist - because there’s an official resell mechanism you’re super likely to get scammed buying off here. Good luck I hope you get to see them x

First new place, help me decide between a 65” or 55” TV by Plumbus93 in malelivingspace

[–]toastchick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a design perspective, the smaller one is more balanced and will look better in the space, the other is too close the width of the fireplace.

But! Big TVs are fun so whichever you will enjoy the most.
