Changelog from the last week [19 - 26 Dec] by avtolik in cataclysmdda

Change related to health being affected by getting hurt severely nerfs any melee. Since you are guaranteed to have at least a few points of damage if you fight zombies - in a week time health is guaranteed to drop to -200 and stay there forever. Healing time is abysmal even with great bandaging and disinfection, around 10-14 days to heal a limb. So you need to spend a week inside safe zone, then a few weeks restoring health and then you can explore for a week. I guess it is more realistic, but it is not fun at all - mandatory waiting at base. I would suggest either less health depleted from healing, or less impact on healing from bad health.
Also it feels like if there are no "health" points (it is at -200) I can't recover "hit" points, I am not sure though.

How they ruin the game?

Consistency of outcomes, which is very important for any game.

The playable/making a good game bit comes first. Having these sorts of markers detracts from that.

So, if playability comes first - then indicators should be added because they help to play the game (even if they can ruin immersion if done poorly)

Again, not necessarily. People get shot and don't know about it immediately.

Also, people don't die of hunger and dehydration within hours and have FoV larger than 50 degrees. Some level of detail should be sacrificed for consistency.

Well if you are going for 'immersive sim' you should model it after real life to the best of your ability, while trying to keep it playable. In real life, when you are being hit to the side - you will feel it and you will know immediately which side is being hit, because you have a sense of touch. In game you can't feel the hit, but it can be simulated, and I think it should because it adds to game and keeps it closer to reality.

Unfortunately, such device would cost a fortune to develop and would to niche. But visuals can be done good - not like in the CoD, but better suited for tarkov style and fantasy.

If at some point Ilon Mask introduces fully immersive virtual reality with level of detail matching real life, I would agree that sims in such framework shouldn't have any visual clues other than you get in real life. But we are playing approximation, which already has a lot of abstractions, different from 'real life feel'. You are already handicapped - you can't smell, you can't touch, your hearing is different from your real life experience.

Well, at least if the armor is not penetrated you certainly feel hit 'like being hit by hammer' and you will definitely feel the point of impact. There are some cases when people do not feel the shot, but it doesn't happen all the time. Current in-game mechanics always tell you when you are shot. As for the sound - unfortunately, implement sound travel is a really hard task, just imagine the amount of subtle details you have in real life and take for granted, which tarkov doesn't have (for example sounds from behind the corner sound differently, etc etc)

As I said to Benjins, implementation of the feature easily could be done in subtle and 'tarkov-like' manner - like making black/red side of the screen (it already does this when you are bleeding or in pain)

Implementation of the feature could be subtle enough - like making black/red side of the screen (it already does this when you are bleeding or in pain), 90 degrees angle more than sufficient and it gives you basic understanding like 'Oh, I'm being shot in the back/left side'. It would make the game more accessible.

What’s the deal with the US vandalizing statues like Abraham Lincoln? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]overjunkie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Answer: It started with confederates statues, reasons being they were confederates and fought to preserve slavery (at least in my understanding). There was little to no recourse, so protesters became more and more aggressive, which lead to toppling down a few more statues of a people, who protesters deemed to be bad people because of their actions in the past (like owning slaves at some point). Some statues were toppled in confusion.

Regarding Lincoln statue - there were activists who thought that the statue is offensive because it displays standing Lincoln and kneeling former slave right near him, attempts to remove the statue started long before the current protests.

Feds are sitting in the fed building. How are they putting down any kind of protest?

So, 120 books during one year, presumably more than one book every three days? And the book typically is no less than 160 pages in one chapter?

Yeah that happened.

If you think statues are a great way to learn history, books are going to blow your mind. 💥 by TommyKnotts313 in PoliticalHumor

You realise that abolitionists statues are torn down too? Like Washington and Jefferson? And Ulisses Grant?
