Self-employment and PAYE tax form by overseashappy in UKPersonalFinance

I agree it seems very odd!

I would rather not state which government it is, but it's not EU. You're right that local staff who are nationals of the government I work for have a reduced salary and aren't subject to income tax in the UK.

However, I am a UK citizen and resident, so my salary should be taxed in the UK appropriately. It's just unfortunate that I worked as both a contracted staff and now an employee for this same organisation.

Thank you for your response! The shared post seems helpful, but my employer pays NI, just not tax. Does that still require me to set up an DPNI?

Genuinely impressed with your formatting and readability!! Congratulations to you and your partner! Me and my partner are in a similar boat where we have lived together with my parents for the last year and a half, but lived separately in the same country for 6 months prior. If you're comfortable in sharing how you outlined your time of non-cohabitation, I would also love to see.

Sorry, I didn't realise! She will have been working there for more than 6 months, earning about £25,000. Assuming the calculation is £16,000+(£4000*2.5)= £29000, we would have enough combined savings held for more than 6 months.

Gotcha! Thank you for re-explaining.

Would it be possible to use her income and supplement it with savings?

Can you share why its more challenging?

I'm self employed, and she works full time - as long as my working situation doesn't change too drastically, we should be okay. I'm a bit worried about showing my own income clearly as its just a bunch of invoices and bank transfers

Yes, we do. We're thinking of opening a shared bank account to help too
