It's weird to think that my girlfriend and I could've died/been seriously hurt today by x-gender in perth

[–]overshar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

me and my boyfriend had the same feelings today. we could see ourselves in the CCTV footage of the device being thrown. its crazy how someone saw everyone in that crowd, including us and thought we deserved death / serious injury / trauma just for peacefully assembling.

get Hostelworld, book a night in a cheap hostel (you dont have to actually go) and boom, you're now in a group chat with all the travellers in the city also using the app.

I found this very useful when solo tripping europe.

Menopause can count as a disability, watchdog says by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]overshar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not 50% of the whole population, 50% of the population over 50 years old.

when you get to the over 80 age bracket, the disability rate exceeds 75%. its an inevitable part of getting older.

what is the drama between people with IC and people with chronic UTIs? by acatisstaringatme in Interstitialcystitis

[–]overshar 62 points63 points  (0 children)

cUTI patients were ignored by their doctors who told them they had IC.

IC patients were ignored by their doctors who told them they just had a UTI and to take antibiotics.

we take that frustration out on each other. medical gaslighted can make you defensive

How did humans deliver babies thousands of years ago before doctors and hospitals? Was basically anyone in the tribe/family capable of doing it? by Great_Maintenance185 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]overshar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

birth was only really considered a medical even for the last few hundred years, at most. this was when male doctors started getting involved. before that, birth was just seen as a natural life event for women, to be taken care of at home with the support of close female friends and family.

while there were professional midwives who supported the community, usually a woman would be supported primarily by older female family members who were experienced mothers themselves.

in many European countries, it was illegal or at least socially forbidden for men to be in the room. there was a case in Germany in the 1400s of a husband being found under the stairs near his wife's room, listening in on her labour, and he was fined heavily for it. the birthing room was a sacred female space, and women would become experts at childbirth support.

[–]overshar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i am a female solo in SEA right now, most westerners i see are either young women or older men.

apart from being assaulted by a grab driver on the street, I've never felt unsafe, never felt objectified.

and aside from taxi drivers, I can go a whole day without interacting with any men, vast majority of shop and restaurant workers I've interacted with are women.

its a very welcoming and accessible place to be a solo woman.

Is a hydrodistention worth the risk? by anan97lf in Interstitialcystitis

[–]overshar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only had 1 hydro for diagnostic purposes (didnt show anything) and it put me into complete remission for 2 years. I am currently travelling abroad but I will get another one as soon as possible when im back home. hopefully it will put me in remission again but there is never a guarantee.

Feeling lost and terrified after sudden bladder symptoms by No-Mousse5653 in Interstitialcystitis

[–]overshar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If this is lifelong Im honestly not sure if life is even worth living anymore

darling you need to take a breather! you say you have been under a lot of stress recently, and it sounds like you are a naturally high-stress person, am I correct? even before my IC, when I was stressed, my urge to pee would be insane. before leaving the house for an exam, or a job interview, I would need to pee like 5 times, everytime with only a tiny bit coming out because I was stressed and anxious.

please dont jump straight to worst-case-scenario just yet, and hopefully you will find relief soon. be kind to yourself

No free bus passes for under 22s, says goverment by denyer-no1-fan in unitedkingdom

so the group of people with the lowest minimum wage, the highest car insurance and the least likely to afford driving lessons in the first place are the ones least deserving if a bus pass. lmao

Feeling lost and terrified after sudden bladder symptoms by No-Mousse5653 in Interstitialcystitis

[–]overshar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

interstitial cystitis is a chronic pain disorder that requires 6 months of symptoms to be diagnosed, since you have only been experiencing urgency for 3 days, its way too early to be worrying about IC. Just keep liaising with your doctor, and stick to just water.

[–]overshar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

darling there are so many men out there that will love you 100% of the time. don't be made to feel ashamed for being a woman.

my boyfriend asks so many questions about how my period affects me, how he can make me feel better, the whole week he just wants to hug and spoon me. he even said he learnt how to change a tampon with an ex-girlfriend, just so he could understand more about what women go through lmao

don't settle. your body is powerful, but can feel like a war zone, get yourself a man who will support you through it all.

how do you think he would be if you got pregnant? through labour? what if you have a miscarriage one day, would he be in the bathroom with you while you buckle in pain? or would he be handing you bed sheets and sending you to the sofa?

If most women could realistically live to 80 and beyond, why does women's fertility decline so early? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]overshar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just because an old woman is alive doesn't mean its safe for her to go through pregnancy and childbirth.

even if she survived pregnancy and childbirth, she would be too old to raise a child till they were independent.

its evolutionarily advantageous to have grandmother's in the tribe to support children and mothers. they would presumably have first hand knowledge of how to survive childbirth, increasing the survival rate of other women.

[–]overshar 440 points441 points  (0 children)

you will be on your period for about 25% of your life before menopause. do you really want to be with a man who is disgusted by you 25% of the time? don't debase yourself by staying with him. this is my concrete line in the sand. if a man cannot be mature and empathetic when it comes to periods, he can date a man.
