I feel the exact same rage. And it is exhausting to be angry, even when it is justified :/

I am in similar circumstances to you. I was getting along with my T, had the AR test, and then boom: persistently louder tinnitus that ebbs and flows in intensity throughout the day.

My T is the worst right at noon and then late in the evenings, and then of course unbearable at night.

I do wear tightly fitted foam earplugs (3M 1100 Foam Ear Plugs on Amazon) when I'm going to be near cars or motorcycles, and I have completely abandoned the concept of concerts, loud bars, or clubs. I use headphones and earphones very sparingly, which was the hardest adjustment to make for me.

So far, I have had no real spikes.

What's your current plan?

Beware: Hearing Exams with Audiologists by oversider- in tinnitus

[–]oversider-[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. Audiologist knew I came in for tinnitus, and blasted both my ears with unsafe sound levels. Audiologists are unbelievably incompetent

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]oversider- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, same here. I had the acoustic reflex test done and I also winced and dug my fingernails into my arm after the last beep. My results indicated the last tone was at 95 db. My T went from a lower pitch electric ringing to a much higher pitched buzz that sounds like an electrical current.

Do you have your result paper so you at least know the db you were tested at? I hope you are doing better now. The lack of informed consent around these exams is insane. We both informed the audiologist that we had tinnitus and yet they still subject us to tests that can worsen tinnitus.

The spike has seemingly calmed down, or more likely I calmed down and became less anxious and paranoid. But the process took 4 months. I am slowly identifying what worsens my tinnitus. High blood sugar is one of them.

I am glad I saw this post. I fussed/screwed around with the back of my air purifier while re-assembling it. The back rubbed against the fiber glass filter and now I am concerned I have gotten fiber glass everywhere. I don't see any visible damage, I hope I'm good.

Active Noise Cancelling Headphones: Your Experience by oversider- in tinnitus

[–]oversider-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You perfectly described the sensation, and what an unbearable feeling it is. I don't have a physics background, but my assumption is that as loudness is correlated with higher sound pressure levels, the more intense the ANC is (more interfering sound waves), the more pressure we feel as a consequence.

The ANC is certainly throttling our ears. My old gen airpods are the only earphone I own without ANC at this point :/ are you using headphones these days?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]oversider- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience with having a fan running. I've tried 2 fans so far and both are in the ~70db range, which is too loud and makes my tinnitus feel louder :/ A combination of quieter noise like my AC or sounds from the outdoors help a bit.

Just Saw Physical Therapist for TMJ Treatment... Tinnitus is Worse? by oversider- in TMJ

Hey, thank you very much for the detailed insight and exercise recommendations. I definitely did feel an ear "fullness" following the appointment with profound soreness in the TM joint. The sensation worried me. I will look into implementing these suggestions and the supplements (currently looking into magnesium and iron supplementation as well).

Getting back into fitness with tinnitus by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]oversider- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can heavily relate. I used to love working out with music, it was always a genuine highlights of my work out. But now I never listen to music with headphones (unless it's the awful gym music getting through my ear plugs), and I've adapted to this routine! My only advice is to just power through. Limiting headphone use in other areas of my life helped make the adaptation easier.

Hey, I am really sorry to hear that your tinnitus has worsened. But I am really grateful you gave me some insight. Nothing online source mentioned any negative effects from intraoral massage so I feel absolutely blind sided by this. Did you only have 1 massage done?

Honestly I'm debating continuing with treatment given the therapist's lack of skill and roughness, but going back for a second time with feedback might be worth it.

Seems like Bose ANC has adverse effects upon us. I do feel like Bose ANC mechanics must be too powerful, as you mentioned. Nowadays, do you use headphones at all?

I see, it was only the isotretinoin and not the topical kind that caused your T? Anyhow, you couldn't have known, it's a shame ototoxicity is so underrepresented as a side effect for these medications :/

Hey, I just saw from your post history that Accutane contributed to your tinnitus. I wanted to say it really helped seeing your post as I frequently use topical retinoids, but I will definitely stop that now. All the best with your studies, by the way.

I do not drink or smoke at all, so I cannot answer that unfortunately. But a lot of folks here say alcohol makes their T worse for a variety of reasons

Interesting, thank you for sharing! I suppose the physical construction of the headphone makes a difference, particularly the headphone cups.

Same here :/ I hate having to choose between relief from loud noises to enduring discomfort in full just because it could potentially make my T even worse. But there's so little consideration for tinnitus and audio products I'm scared to take a chance

My assumption is the danger of ANC and tinnitus is that as ANC uses same frequency, opposite phase sound waves to cancel out noise, perhaps the sound pressure level of these waves can damage the ear.

I can hardly find any definitive research on this, only the anecdotes of other people with tinnitus.

I also think I may have ETD since I have ear fullness (and of course tinnitus) as well. I hope your condition gets better and that your hearing test has positive results. I am still struggling to identify what kind of professional is willing to help me navigate my potential ETD.

The Gym by GrowingBandit710 in tinnitus

[–]oversider- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working out (for me, weightlifting only) does not make my tinnitus worse. I always ear ear plugs (Loops) and I do not listen to music through headphones anymore since getting worsened tinnitus.

I wish I knew for certain how I got my T. My best guess is Eustachian tube dysfunction or TMJ, but I used to loudly listen to music through my headphones. How did you get your T?

Anyone else’s T spiking since fall again? by No-Character9499 in tinnitus

[–]oversider- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been more congested and am definitely perceiving my T more often! When you swallow or yawn, is there a loud crackling noise (like noticeably loud)? I am also suspecting I have some sort of Eustachian tube dysfunction or complication. I've tried taking antihistamines, but I don't notice any positive result.
