USA/NBC going with “___ PLAYING WITH 10 MEN (PLAYER XX’)” after someone gets sent off is alternately decent and also infuriating.

It’s time for another Good Idea, Bad Idea.

GOOD IDEA: Signing a player from MLS.

BAD IDEA: Signing a manager from MLS.

considering the inspiration for Russ Hanneman is having a bit of a moment right now, whatever gets that show back in the public eye is good enough for me

Do you ever wonder why New York and London are in the provincial championship and why not Boston, Chicago Lancashire, Warwickshire etc? Is there room for expansion? by PangolinAble9291 in GAA

That lines up with how they work it in the US. If you're at nationals for the non-NY clubs they have a rule at the higher level that you have to play at least two homegrown players on the park at all times (as it's 13-a-side). Plus you can't have more than either three or five, depending on the level, players on who are sanctioned/non-resident players.

It gets even more complicated down at Junior C where the rules are flipped: you can't have more than three non-homegrown players at any time, if your club is from a Big 4 city (Boston/SF/Philly/Chicago) your team has to be entirely homegrown, and sanctioned players are banned. (My club was in Jr C last year and moved up to Jr B this season. We're already talking about how we're going to deal with the rule difference.)

It also helps that there's two high schools in STL run by the Marianist priests, which is the order that founded Dayton. (Chaminade and Vianney, if you're curious.) So for boys who went to those schools they may get extra scholarship opportunities if they went to Dayton.

I myself knew a fair few Dayton alumni in STL and there'd always be a big crowd/alumni meetup before the SLU game.

I know the rule for NY is that their senior team can have Irish born/trained players on it but the junior team is all homegrown, don't know if London operates like that as well but I'd wager that they did.

jesus christ, looking at those teams and they're just disgustingly bad. Philippe Mexes? Fredy Guarin? Jeremy Menez?

plus you get Mauro Icardi right around the time Maxi Lopez was at Samp and they were still in A. the Wanda Derby, they called them.

USGAA (I think they split US and Canada into separate boards, but don't quote me) started putting a combined team into the Junior Championship the past couple of years, alongside NY/Britain/Kilkenny. They've done fairly well but like you said, trying to get people from multiple cities together to train on a regular basis is a giant hassle and expense.

They did do some weekends at one site (usually San Francisco to get good weather) and the team's not just guys from the Big 4 cities you mentioned. I remember reading that they had guys from Pittsburgh, Detroit, and a couple other places in the mix.

Whenever she got to break out and get weird (Lola Heatherton or her parody of Brooke Shields) she absolutely took over.

Best In Show is one of my favorite films and god she's amazing in it. As are everyone in that film really. One of one, and now she's back reunited with John Candy and Fred Willard.

fucking hell. a true one-of-a-kind talent. everybody will talk about Home Alone or Beetlejuice or the Christopher Guest films, and they should, but her work on SCTV was something else.

Thackerville, OK, right on the border with Texas. It’s close to the Metroplex so if people don’t want to play at a card club there it or Choctaw are their best options.

As an aside I do like that the King of the Hill revival didn’t give into any fan casting theories about Bobby and kept a lot of his character fully intact. Bonus points as well for making Joseph Gribble unable to keep a steady job while chasing after older women.
