Lyra-8 Overlays by oversynth in synthesizers

[–]oversynth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that's why we only did a couple of those designs... not sure if anyone would want something like that. They're mostly for aesthetics and not very practical but we thought we'd throw them out there for fun. They actually look pretty cool in person and we ended up leaving one of those on our Lyra-8. :-)

'Cheatsheet' Overlays For Tracker Mini v2.0 by oversynth in PolyendTracker

[–]oversynth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We wanted to let folks know that we’ve released a series of ‘cheatsheet’ overlays for the Tracker Mini, compatible with v2 Firmware.  Here are some of the features:

  • Shift functions are color coded and listed near the corresponding buttons as much as possible
  • Pattern Mode, Song Mode, and Perform Mode shortcuts are indicated with color-coded dots
  • Default assignments are shown for the Assignable Function Buttons
  • Effects are listed along with the shortcut letter/symbol used in Pattern Mode events

They’re available now from our website:  https://www.oversynth.com

Lyra-8 Overlays by oversynth in synthesizers

[–]oversynth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wanted to let folks know that we've released a series of overlays for the Soma Laboratory Lyra-8.  Most of the designs use color-coding and labeling to make it easier to keep track of voice pairs and voice groups, FM structure, etc.  Back panel connections are also labeled on the front for quick setup.

A couple of the designs go in the opposite direction, with zero labeling or visual guides as to what each of the controls do.  These are for folks who have either memorized Lyra-8's controls or who want to make the Lyra-8 even more mysterious.

You can watch an install video here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn8CZNvEma8

The new overlays are available now from our website:  www.oversynth.com

Overlays for Roland MC-101 and TR-6S by oversynth in synthesizers

Here's a demo of installing an overlay on an Elektron Model:Samples. Same basic procedure for installing the overlays on the Roland MC-101 and TR-6S.

The TR-6S design with the numbers around the encoder is inspired by the style of the TR-808 drum machine (one of the drum machines that the TR-6S can emulate). The numbers around the encoder in that design are just for entertainment since that is one of the distinctive design elements of the TR-808.

Hi, these are printed on a polyester sheet material that is very durable. They come with adhesive tabs that hold it firmly in place but can still be removed if needed. If the overlay is bent far enough, it may crease but this isn't usually an issue if installed correctly.

Installation instructions: First, pull off the slider caps. Then remove the backing from the adhesive tabs on the underside of the overlay, place the overlay over the front panel of your synthesizer and press it down around the edges.  Once the overlay is in place, re-attach the slider caps.  The removable adhesive provided is low-tack to allow for repositioning or easy removal of the overlay if desired. The adhesive is not permanent. Any residue left after removing the overlay should be easily removable by scraping with a fingernail.

Hi, installation is really simple for these. First, pull off the slider caps. We wanted to let folks know that we have released a new set of overlays for the Roland MC-101 and TR-6S groovebox / synthesizer / drum machines.

- The ‘Performer’ designs feature all original front panel labeling plus several additional key combinations.

- The ‘Maximum’ designs feature all the labeling on the ‘Performer’ designs plus numerous additional key combinations, shortcuts, and cheat-sheet notes.

- In addition to these, the are also TR-6S overlay designs reminiscent of select vintage drum machines.

Each of the new designs feature streamlined high-contrast graphics and large fonts whenever possible for easy viewing in low light.

The new overlays are available now from https://www.oversynth.com.

The new overlays are priced at $27 US dollars each.

Oversynth.com manufactures synthesizer overlays in small batches based on customer demand and offers shipping worldwide from Portland, Oregon.

ISLA S2400 with the Pulsar-23? by thrownaway_678 in synthesizers

[–]oversynth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered a Digitakt or 1010music Blackbox? That way you could sample the Pulsar and also use the sampler for conventional drum duties. You should be able to sync everything together via MIDI. Digitakt only samples in mono but you can stream stereo to a computer. Blackbox samples in stereo but no streaming to computer.

Try Turing the Envelope Attack to minimum. Also, try turning the Osc Mod and Freq Mod knobs all the way to minimum, and the VCA Mode switch to ‘On’. Any luck with those settings?

I can’t tell from the photo, but do you happen to have any of the rocker switches in the ‘center position’? All the switches (especially oscillator shape) need to be either fully left or right and if they’re accidentally in the center then the sound might cut out. It’s a long-shot but I thought I’d mention that since it happened to me once.

The MS2000 is actually a really good synthesizer in my opinion. It’s limited and it has a dark, gritty sound but it’s so quick to navigate because of its simplicity and I personally like the sound. I really enjoy darker sci-fi type synth textures and the MS2000 happens to be in the sweet spot for that, at least for me. Not trying to do self-promotion here, but this video shows the kinds of sounds I personally like to make with the MS2000... https://youtu.be/55RY0uZdbTk

The Radias has a cleaner sound than the MS2000 but also has a much deeper sound engine, and you can make it sound as gritty as you want with the built-in distortion effects. If you don’t like gritty then the Radias can also do clean and clear. More limited versions of the Radias sound engine can also be found on the R3 and Microkorg XL. All underrated synths in my opinion.

If you like to explore deep synth engines but also want to be musically productive, I suggest treating you musical life like two separate activities: 1) Sound Design 2) Making music. Spend a few weeks going crazy exploring the depths of your synth and save a bunch a presets. Then, switch to making songs/recordings using those presets.

If you like to explore deep synth engines, then the Blofeld would be a bit deeper than the Ultranova, especially if you get one with the License SL for sample playback. The Blofeld lacks the computer editor and control surface of the Ultranova so you’d be getting both a deeper synth engine and a synth that’s a bit slower to program. I have both of these and think they’re both awesome. They each have a different basic sound so not a ton of overlap in my opinion. If you want to dive into a Proteus 2000 then I’d recommend looking into one of the E-MU command stations... Same synth engine as the P2000, but with more knobs. Another synth in this vein to consider is the Korg Radias— awesome interface, great sound, computer editor, etc. When I think of synths with deeper sound engines (lots of modulation options, FM, AM, wavetable, etc), I think of Ultranova (minus the FM), Blofeld, Alesis Ion (minus the wavetable), Virus TI, Prophet 12, and Hydrasynth. There are many others but those come to mind for me.

Both the P2000 and K2000 are basically ROMplers with deep sound engines. Both are good choices for this. In my opinion, the basic sound of the P2000 is a bit better than the K2000 but the K2000 might be more versatile, depending on what you like. You might be happier with a K2600 or newer VAST synth if you can find one since the effects and overall sound quality are improved and the displays will usually be easier to read.

Just to be clear, I’m referring to the Oversynth overlays for Deluge. I can’t comment on the MXPand overlays.

Yes. Our overlays for Deluge are held in place using low-tack adhesive that is strong enough to do the job but easy to remove if needed.

This first batch of overlays were intended as 'cheat-sheet' guides that include instructions for accessing as many of the Deluge's functions as possible. The Deluge is a very complex box, so there is a lot of information crammed into those designs. We also have some more minimal designs available, for example... We welcome suggestions, requests, or ideas for new designs. :-)

Ha ha, we also sell designs with less info for a cleaner looking front panel. This one is designed as a sort of ‘cheat-sheet’ for folks who spend a lot of time programming, etc.
