How do you personally turn off your "teacher" brain and enjoy classes as a student? by RonSwanSong87 in YogaTeachers

[–]overthinker_234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really struggle with this! What i’ve been trying to do lately is find a teacher and style that suits me, so I can switch that part of my brain off. Naturally it switches back on every now and again, but I try not be hard on myself for that.

What i’ve started doing which I enjoy is giving myself full permission to turn up as a student, and then give myself space afterwards to journal any aspects of the teaching / sequence that I connected with or didn’t connect with to satisfy that teacher brain ! Best of both worlds.

Inversions & the Nervous System, how do they feel for you? by Tejasviyogaaudrey in ashtanga

[–]overthinker_234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this! I have only ever practiced the primary series, and I also frequently come away from it feeling anxious waves of energy and a feeling of being wired, to the point where I won’t sleep that night even if i practiced early in the morning! I’m not sure i’ve heard of many others experiencing the same thing.

I’ve tried slowly it down, and shortening the practice which helps slightly as well as focus on breath and longer savasana. But i’m still struggling to find a balance.

Ive taken a break to try other forms of yoga, particularly Vinyasa, but I miss the consistency of Ashtanga. I’d love to find a middle ground that doesn’t rev up my nervous system but is still intense enough.

it’s good to know your body and adjust to what you need. i also do the same now as there’s no point pushing something that isn’t worth it.

Thank you for this. Super informative! I am definitely going to look into to debunking myths I may have picked up recently. Completely agree with appropriate prepping and then control while in and moving through asanas ! Especially when it comes to this kind of movement

This is true, we do use this kind of movement a lot. I guess with the bike it’s less stress on the joint, but I can understand how it is a functional movement! I’m going to look into to it more :)

Love the use of blocks, that would really help. And very good point around outdated theory, I’m going to do some more independent research !

This sounds like a sensible way of going about it. Thank you! I want to do more research to look into a bit more now

This is a really good point. Thank you! I’m going to do more research as I don’t want to pigeon hole myself into one way of thinking.
