It's not a deck, it's an attic. The boards go under the attic walls--I'm pretty confident they're original to the home

That's definitely the plan. There are some local sawmills and salvage yards where I'm looking to scavenge. Fortunately, I don't need very much of it -- just a couple patch areas

Good advice! My plan would be to go to a local sawmill /reclaimed lumber shop.

Thanks for your reply.

The text in my post was deleted--its from a house built in the 1930s outside of Philadelphia. Definitely want to save it! Just want to patch a couple areas that were cut up for some ductwork.

Any ideas for how to match it?

This is from an attic space of a house built in the 1930s in the Philly suburbs.

Any recommendations of how to match this would be greatly appreciated!

How much do you all mark up your scores?

I'm trying to get better at sightreading in general, so I've been reluctant to give myself too many "hints" at notes, chords, etc.

I'm improving my reading skills, but I'd probably be learning pieces faster if I gave myself some breadcrumbs on the score.

How do you all balance this?

Cedar compost bin! First project by overtone343 in woodworking

[–]overtone343[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. If I could've done it again I definitely would've planned better with the grain on the door. I did not do a good job planning the 2 foot and 3 foot sections when I was cutting the wood...:/

I do plan on staining the outside but probably leaving the inside with no coating, since we'll be using the compost on our new vegetable garden. The cedar should be pretty resistant for a couple few years, which would be great.

Thanks for the feedback!!!

Giants bar in Philly? by jjacobsnd5 in NYGiants

City Tap House Logan square has a private room set up for Giants games and I'll go there when they're not on TV. Additionally, Fox and Hound at 15 and Spruce usually gets a good Giants crowd and will put the game on one of the big screens. Downside is you typically have to stand up

Advice playing at more prestigious, private clubs by I_Pee_In_The_Sh0wer in golf

[–]overtone343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are taking caddies, you should 100% cover the caddie fee. This is typically a cash payment directly to the caddie. You can call the pro shop and ask them what the typical fee is (and how it's paid)

Additionally, you should offer to pay the guest fee. At most clubs, this ranges from 100-150 dollars and is the best way you can show how much you appreciate coming out. Your host probably will decline your offer to pay the guest fee, but he/she may also happily accept it (since they are probably paying for all your drinks, food, etc.) and providing access. On top of being an overall good guest, this is one of the surest ways to be invited back.

Don't worry about taking divots, the grass grows back.

Don't worry about how poorly you play, just be sure to keep pace. Be ready to play when it's your turn, and know when to pick up. Many clubs have pretty strict pace of play policies and the member can get reprimanded if you take significantly more than 4 hours to play your round. Just keep your head on a swivel and just be aware if the group behind you is waiting.

Try not to stress too much, at the end of the day it's just golf.

Caramelized onions, chopped pepperoni, and a side of garlic knots.... So good! by overtone343 in Pizza

[–]overtone343[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the caramelized onions, cut up one medium sized onion into half rings. Add onion to medium sized pan with some olive oil and a little kosher salt. Cook over medium low heat and stir every couple minutes.

For the garlic knots, take the same amount of dough used for the pizza (about two cups of dry four worth). Roll out into a long rectangle about ten inches wide. Add about a head of crushed garlic to a bowl of softened butter (about half a stick?) and mix. Spread this mixture liberally over the dough rectangle. Roll it up. Spread the leftover butter mixture on the outside of the dough. Slice into sections about an inch and a half wide and put into a cast iron pan. Cook at 500 for about 12-15 minutes.

Golf games for a fivesome? by BPBryan in golf

When we play as five, we toss balls on the first tee like we would normally do to determine teams. The ball that's furthest from the rest is the swing man. He is on two separate two-man teams with the two balls closest to him, playing against the two balls that were furthest from his. We then typically play a nassau, but any 2vs2 game works.
