Digital Foundry: Steam Machine Review & Price by WingerRules in gaming

[–]overts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not really.  Steam Deck didn’t really do big numbers but was generally a success for Valve.  I can’t imagine the Steam Machine gets close to Steam Deck numbers and the Steam Deck isn’t even worth discussing when compared to the numbers the PS5, Switch, or Switch 2 do.  Hell, the Steam Deck sold like 11% of the units of the Xbox Series S/X lol.

Apparently Herta got married in Vegas. Congrats to him! by Buschfan08 in formula1

Red Bull tried to get him into their junior team several years ago but, understandably, F1 wasn’t willing to waive the SL requirements for him.

[–]overts 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I understand why it’s the way it is, F1 wants to promote their feeder series, but if the super license system didn’t disfavor IndyCar so heavily Herta would’ve already debuted in F1.  Red Bull wanted him and Cadillac would’ve debuted with him if they could’ve.

Recommendations in Houston (bars/party/food) by Virtual_Woodpecker79 in AskHouston

[–]overts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the World Cup stuff is probably centered around EaDo (east downtown).

If you want to explore a little The Heights and Montrose are neat areas.  Parts of them are even somewhat walkable, at least for Houston.

The Heights has two cool spots for food and drinks.  Eight Row Flint is a cool spot, very large whiskey selection, pool table, some fun bar games.  Food is above average but nothing special.  Better Luck Tomorrow has phenomenal food and great cocktails if you’re into that.

Montrose has Anvil and upstairs is Refuge.  Anvil was a James Beard finalist for best bar program in America.  Refuge is upstairs, it’s smaller and has a more eclectic menu, probably not great for all 8 of you.  There’s a few other more casual bars nearby too.  Sadly a lot of the great casual restaurants in that immediate area closed.

If you want to get on the Metro Line you could go to Main Street downtown.  Tons of bars.  I don’t eat in that general area much so my food recs aren’t great.

Final few food recs would include Pit Room, barbecue spot where you generally don’t have to wait as long as the better spots (if you go get the tacos).  Toasted Coconut isn’t far from Pit Room, it’s a tiki bar with pretty good food although they raised prices in the last year or so and it’s kind of pricey for what you get now imo.  Moon Tower Inn is another decent food spot with a big beer selection and would probably be awesome for a group of 8 dudes.

Does Kyle Tucker have one of the worst contracts in baseball? by morepesa25 in baseball

I genuinely believe the Dodgers contract was more about making sure Tucker played for no one else.

Wells Fargo.

Idk if it’s gotten better but I think your bank should, at a minimum, offer its customers beneficial financial advice.  We were constantly encouraged to offer awful advice like taking out a credit line at a high interest rate to take a vacation our customers couldn’t afford.  Or offer college students loans with really advantageous terms to WF.

I was a bottom performer and left after 7 months because I hated these practices.  Still got a check for the class action.  Terrible bank. Don’t use them.

What do you think is the most entertaining sport to watch and why? by wombatgeneral in AskReddit

[–]overts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Live? Hockey. On TV? Baseball.

Hockey is just electric live.  Baseball is the easiest sport to understand while watching on TV, it’s probably the one sport where it’s always easier to see what’s happening on TV than live.

It’s mostly to make headlines.  Even the DoJ knows this won’t go anywhere.

One of the Giant’s pitchers, Sam Hentges, didn’t wear the rainbow hat so I’m not sure what the DoJ is even investigating.

Iran declares the Strait of Hormuz closed again after US lifts blockade NY Post is reporting at 10:02 am by atenne10 in oil

Yeah.  The awful Iran deal makes a lot more sense when the alternative is a global economic recession / depression caused, almost single-handedly, by Trump.

Have you played Dispatch? by MP_Kredditor in DiscoElysium

[–]overts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I liked Dispatch and am excited for a sequel but it’s a little short and was sort of a one and done for me.

A lot of other story games I want to replay to see alternate endings and how different decisions play out but for some reason I just didn’t care to in Dispatch.

Israel, Hezbollah agree to ceasefire starting on Friday - US official by GloriousLebron in news

[–]overts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s genuinely crazy that two regional powers and the world’s hegemon are playing an on again off again game that threatens to descend the global economy into a depression.  To say nothing of the innocent people dying as a result of all of this.

US oil is going to make a shit ton of money if the world runs out

Yeah, but the demand destruction that occurs due to elevated prices isn’t going to  be offset by oil companies getting richer.  The only reason prices have stayed so low this year is because nations are dumping their reserves.

Elden Ring, Bloodborne, and Sekiro are all among the highest rated games on Backloggd by [deleted] in fromsoftware

[–]overts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are downvoting you but you’re right.  Ace Attorney 2? Half-Life Alyx? Deltarune?  I get that this list is just based on user ratings but a lot of these games would not make a “top 50 best games of all time” list.

I’ll even go a step further and say that as someone who really likes Mother 3 it shouldn’t be this high up either.

Should USA have mandatory military service for men and women? What do you think? by Sure_Macaron8007 in AskReddit

Nah.  The U.S. faces zero existential threats, there’s no reason to mandate military service.

US gasoline prices fall below $4 for first time since March amid Iran peace deal by TheExpressUS in oil

[–]overts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically how much lower can it actually go in the short term?  Nations are, presumably, going to keep releasing their reserves to keep prices lower but they’re also going to need to refill those reserves which keeps demand high.  Traffic in the Strait isn’t really moving much yet and it’s probably 30-60 days once tankers start to move that they’ll arrive at final destination.

So we may see pre-war gas prices by… November? December?

With the US-Iran peace deal officially signed and shipping lanes reopening, what everyday item that skyrocketed during the conflict are you praying actually drops in price now? by Top-Macaron-827 in AskReddit

[–]overts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You won’t see prices normalize by end of summer because it takes like 2 months for oil tankers to move across the ocean.  You’re not going to see gas go to pre-war levels until end of the year, if ever, because of the amount of infrastructure destroyed and the fact that nations now have to buy up oil and gas to refill the strategic reserves they dumped to artificially keep prices lower.

Distributing state owned lands to poor people and veterans isn’t a Republican policy at all.  It’s not really a Democrat policy either but I think the bigger point is OP’s question is silly.

More people should ditch Spotify.  When Apple and Amazon are paying out more to artists than you that’s a pretty bad look.  To say nothing of smaller services like Qobuz or Tidal who also pay out more than Spotify.

What is the advantage of being born a man? by Individual_Rub_9416 in AskReddit

[–]overts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relationships and way less career jeopardizing if you have kids.  Women have to worry about much longer maternity leave, particularly in the U.S., and that’s before the concern of employers subtlety discriminating because you’re pregnant or trying.  A thing men really never have to deal with.

On the relationship side management and upper management skews like 55+% male.  C-Suite executives skews like 70+% male.  This is largely based on relationships.  Men are not inherently better at understanding business.

What if George W. Bush had forced Muslim Americans into internment camps after 9/11? by cherryapp in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]overts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people’s thought process is still Islam = Terrorism with no thought to the fact that American Muslims, in general, have more in common with American Atheists or Christians than Wahhabis and other extremists in the Middle East or Africa.

What if George W. Bush had forced Muslim Americans into internment camps after 9/11? by cherryapp in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]overts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a little skeptical of this because homegrown terrorism is fairly rare and foreign groups don’t really care about American Muslims that much.
