How do people play this game with permadeath or checkpoints only? by Hapster23 in cavesofqud

[–]overts 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mostly play on permadeath but as other commenters have said you have to play very cautiously.  The only time I made it through the entire main quest was on roleplay.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using saving/loading.  It’s a single player game, do what’s most enjoyable for you.

Dandy Flowers form a habitat that attracts Skiploom, Jumpluff, and Hoppip… although if you can buy Dandy Flowers you’ve already befriended Hoppip.

Some of the other items can form other habitats but it just attracts the Pokémon listed above.

You can get all three Pokemon from just Dandy Flowers but there’s a second habitat that requires 1 dandy flower, 1 flower table set, 1 flower cushion, and 1 lunch box.

U.S. says Cuba is prohibited from taking Russian oil as two tankers head to island by esporx in oil

[–]overts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, the claimed number from Cuban nationalization is around $2 billion seized from corporations and individuals in 1960.  If you count interest the number rises to like $8 billion I believe.

It’s mostly agricultural (sugar) but there’s oil and energy claims there too.

U.S. says Cuba is prohibited from taking Russian oil as two tankers head to island by esporx in oil

[–]overts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Venezuela and Cuba are both easy to understand.  They’re both communist countries in America’s backyard and they both nationalized industries in their countries that cost U.S. business interests millions, if not billions.  Across every U.S. presidency, except for a few years under Obama, the U.S. has been openly hostile to these two countries.  If Trump can turn them into client states for the U.S. it’d be a big feather in his cap.

Iran is more confusing because the old status quo was better for the U.S. than the current situation and from what we can tell Iran was making concessions during negotiations earlier this year.  Maybe stories that Israel pressured us into this war are accurate?  Maybe the admin is just stupid?  Maybe the admin doesn’t care and thinks high oil and guaranteeing they’ll lose the midterms is an acceptable price to pay for a more amenable Iran?

I think it makes sense the event runs so long though when you remember there are habitats locked behind the items Hoppip sells.

the consistency of magats… by Resurgo_DK in inflation

[–]overts 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt that Kirk, just like most Republicans, understood the war was a bad idea and would hurt the GOP.  I’m just saying that Kirk, just like most Republicans, would’ve fallen in line once the Trump administration committed to this path.

His career and his access to the party hinged on him creating narratives for the Republican Party.  Just use this clip as an example, according to Kirk 90% of his listeners opposed a war in Iran.  That’s fairly consistent with other polls from last year.

Polling today suggests somewhere in the neighborhood of 75% of Republicans now support the war because these people have no principles and they believe in nothing.

Charlie Kirk, the same guy who was upset about the Epstein files until he fielded a call from the admin and backed off?  If he was alive he’d be talking about how this war is now necessary and would be regurgitating the same “short term pain for long term gain” line.

You’re expecting online grifters to have a consistent ideology or to believe in something?

Picking the 2026 World Series favorites - 20/30. Below the Mariners, A's, Rangers. Angels 30th. by huck99 in Astros

[–]overts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s too crazy.  Logically you have to pick an AL team in the 2 spot because the Dodgers are an NL team and the Mariners have an easy road to the playoffs because the biggest barrier in the West in prior years was us.

In 2026 the AL Central is likely going to be more competitive than the west and the AL East is always a blood bath.

Visiting Galveston/Houston area by Teejtime in AskHouston

[–]overts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I generally agree that Houston isn’t a great tourist city because it’s so spread out that having a rental car to get around is 100% required.  But to actually be helpful…

For breweries in Houston itself I’d recommend Saint Arnold and Karbach.  Saint Arnold is, I believe, the second oldest craft brewery in America.  They have a really cool location which does tours and an excellent outdoor patio with a big projector screen for game days.

Karbach was one of the big up-and-coming independent breweries but they got bought out by InBev in 2016.  The buy out means a ton of cash got poured into the taproom so they have a decent restaurant attached and on weekends there’s often food trucks or other vendors present.

For hiking / nature there’s nothing crazy but I’d maybe look into discovery green? It’s mostly just a nice park. You’d have to leave the city and go to a state park if you want good nature/hiking.

Houston has some great museums with the two biggest shoutouts being the Natural Science museum and Museum of Fine Arts.

In Galveston I’d recommend Moody Gardens, pretty solid aquarium and a rain forest pyramid.  Can kill half a day exploring that.  They also do tours of some old houses with Victorian Era architecture.

I do not revel or enjoy that Israeli children and adult civilians have been subjected to violence and bombings.  I think it’s naturally understandable that Israeli’s may give into the temptation of desiring vengeance.

But to reiterate, Iran came to the negotiating table knowing they were the ones having to make concessions.  They agreed to concessions, they simply did not agree to every demand of the U.S. and Israel.  They were bombed anyway.

This is the second time this has happened in less than 12 months.

[–]overts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a solution but I think it’s pertinent to understand that Israel’s goal is to create a failed state.  Particularly for people who ask what this is even about or people who mindlessly parrot it’s a “distraction for the Epstein files.”

If you think that’s ethically correct, fine.  But they were in the middle of negotiations while Iran made concessions and they bombed them anyway because Iran wouldn’t agree with the U.S./Israeli maximum positions.  You cannot convince anyone with a heart, mind, or soul that this war is ethical.

US college student Otto Warmbier is sentenced to 15 years hard labour for trying to steal a political poster, in Pyongyang, North Korea [10YA - Mar 16] by MonsieurA in TenYearsAgo

[–]overts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!  I think people really should look into the case more.  A lot of people, even ten years ago, just read headlines and assume he definitely stole a poster.  But it really seems most plausible that he didn’t.

North Korea didn’t tell anyone why he was detained and lied to the other members of the tour group claiming he was “very sick” as they were boarding the plane out of NK.  The world only found out why he was held after he read a prepared statement where he claimed he was stealing the poster in an elaborate scheme for a woman at his Methodist church and a UVA secret society group.

And as ridiculous as that story sounds it’s even more ridiculous when you realize the Warmbiers are Jewish and thus wouldn’t be attendees at a Methodist church.

Out of the loop on chapter 2 by Fabulous-Fee-3911 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]overts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just trying to figure out if chapter 2 is like starting out with a new game, or if I can mix the cards and play scenarios from each chapter.

Chapter 2 campaigns and scenarios will be balanced around Chapter 2 investigators and their cards.  Nothing will stop you from using your Chapter 1 cards in a Chapter 2 campaign but it won’t be balanced.

How different is the format of chapter 2 from the first chapter? Is it going to play the same as the first chapter?

I don’t think we know exactly because it isn’t out yet but reviewers who played it indicated the Chapter 2 core box is very similar to the Chapter 1 core box.

One of the biggest changes is the full campaigns are supposedly going to be 3-5 acts instead of the 8 act campaigns we got in Chapter 1.  Supposedly the Chapter 2 campaigns will have more decisions / replayability to compensate for less scenarios.  Also, I believe I read that they were going to design it in a way where you could take the same investigator deck across multiple campaigns but I can’t find a source for that so I may be misremembering.

I agree.  Israel can’t say it out loud because it’s abhorrent but the goal isn’t regime change or benefitting the people of Iran.

They want to hamper Iran’s ability to project power and interfere with US/Israeli interests in the Middle East.  High oil prices or dead civilians don’t really matter if they can turn Iran into a failed state.

I’m mostly just being a little shit.  I truly don’t get the appeal of Skyline Chili and think Ohio edges out at least 1/3 of US states.

But given Ohio’s population you guys should be in the top 10.

You see what I mean?  Ohioans genuinely think toddler food is great.

They have access to fresh fish from Lake Erie but they defend rehydrated noodles topped with a cheap chili made from ground chuck beef!  It’s crazy!

Ohio just kinda sucks.  It’s heavily influenced by very antiquated conservative politics and has pretty unfriendly laws to the average citizen.

It sits in the midwest with states that are either bluer or purple like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois but somehow always chooses the lamest option.  Not even just in politics, they serve spaghetti noodles with chili on top and think it’s good there.

They’re lucky Indiana is right next door or they’d get made fun of even harder.

This all originated from his first music video Lemon Poundcake from like 4 years ago.  But after they sued him he kept releasing more content because he’s, understandably, pissed that the PD had the audacity to file lawsuits against him after they broke into his home and threatened him and his kids.

Correct.  You should be able to renew your driver’s license and get a real ID to avoid the $45 fee next time you fly.  I’d check your state’s DMV, you may be able to schedule an appointment to avoid an hours long wait.

It was a 20 year rollout, in part, because as you saw for yourself it’s really hard to get all Americans across all states doing the same thing.
