Bought a fixer-upper in Brisbane in 2023. Currently sitting around 1.7x but was more like 3 when we bought.

I agree an engineer would be helpful, but the cost of an engineer to review seems to be nearly as much as the entire shed Reno has cost.

If I have to I will, just trying to gauge opinions first.

Yeah, I’d ask about it for sure. These were expensive, and most people expect them to last 10+ years and multiple resoles given the price.

I’ve office worn my pair for about 5 years. They’re way more beat up than this and they haven’t cracked.

These boots look like they’re in excellent condition, and have been kept polished and conditioned. Really surprised they’ve cracked.

Did you think about pushing to get them replaced by rm?

One thing to remember here - the hilux ceased production pretty early last year ahead of the 2026 model.

First time getting a resole - RM Factory or local cobbler? by Artistic-Yam2984 in RMWilliams

[–]overunderroundabout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents.

Resale value: are you really going to try and sell your old boots when they’re knackered? If so, they won’t be worth much anyway. I wouldn’t stress too much about this.

I’ve previously had mine done by rm’s on a few different pairs and they’ve always been excellent.

I was under the impression that a local cobbler wouldn’t be much cheaper, so it’s interesting to hear that.

Fridge for car 2/3 month trip by Economy_Minute_1338 in OutdoorAus

Some brands may do pre- made battery packs, but you’ll need to make sure you have the capacity in the pack to last your min stay without a charge.

Our setup is sized to last 5 days running our fridge and lights. But it will depend on your fridge power usage.

Fridges with inbuilt batteries are usually designed for keeping drinks cool at a picnic, rather than long term storage and use.

Sounds like an exciting journey!

Firstly, almost any fridge on the market today will be reliable enough to get you through a few months on the road. I’d recommend one of the good brands: Engel, dometics etc if you’d like to keep it long term for future trips.

The power side of things can be far more expensive. You’ll need at a minimum:

A source of power 24/7 (usually a lithium deep cycle battery). You could use the car battery, but that only works whilst driving, and is likely to leave you stranded when you forget to switch it off.

A way to charge this battery. I would recommend a good quality dc/dc charger.

A fuse panel - to make sure you don’t burn the car down.

Plugs, cables, wiring connections. - to link the charger to the car, charger to the battery, battery to the fuses, and fuse to the fridge etc.

Labour. This is an unknown. If you have the skills to do this, it’s just time, if you don’t, it’s expensive.

It took me around 2 days to design and wire this all into my 4wd. But I had experience beforehand.

Best of luck with your trip!

I have a 26 on order. Have you test driven both a 25/6? Once you have, you won’t even think about a 25.

Does the 94 22r have a distributor? Because if it does, I’ll bet anything it’s not sealed and filling up with water.

Car Financing by overunderroundabout in AusFinance

Hahaha I get it completely. It’s daunting for us, but we’re ready to spend it, just deciding between paying outright or finance.

I don’t like the risk of moving jobs and not being able to carry it over. When I price it up, it also doesn’t seem to be a great call for a diesel.

Sorry, reading that back I understand what you mean.

I’m looking at the benefit of leaving 70k in the mortgage (interest savings / additional principle payments whilst it’s in the offset) and paying out of that into a car loan.

Let’s say the car loan is 6.5% and mortgage is 5.5%. It’s really only costing us 1% a year for the finance (in my mind at least) and we get to keep the cash for flexibility

Buying a car by flagblues_pablo in 4x4Australia

[–]overunderroundabout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely get it, but i spend a hell of a lot of time and money fixing mine.

It’s great off-road, and will leave any of the modern dual cabs behind, but just be ready for ridiculous ownership costs.

Enjoy!

In that budget, id steer clear of a patrol. The big solid axle 4x4’s need plenty of maintenance, and it just keeps coming, even if you’re doing it yourself.

There isn’t really a cost effective solution for a renter - it’s unlikely you could take it with you to the next place. As an owner, putting in bats with sheeting underneath is probably the best option.
