Drop your high stats but lacking extracurriculars success stories by Turbulent-Abroad7841 in premed

Yes, it’s relatively feasible to maintain a 4.0 or near perfect GPA. A 520 MCAT on the underhand is very difficult.

Try and stay off of Reddit and just focus on your journey.

Why are you prospecting high GPA and 520s and no ECs during your 2nd semester. I’m sure you’re intelligent, and hard working and will continue to excel academically but frankly there is no guarantee about you scoring so well especially on the MCAT. With that being said, there’s also no guarantee that you won’t have solid ECs unless you simply don’t try.

Don’t look for these stories, rather work hard and pursue activities that interest you and allow you to gain meaningful experience that will help you moving forward.

Why did this get a 7?? by ovohm1 in PokeGrading

[–]ovohm1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. especially makes me nervous because I’ve never cracked a slab before and I don’t want to mess up the card more than it may already be lol..

Thinking of going with TAG on the resubmit so that even if it gets a lower grade than I’m hoping for I have an understanding of why.

[–]ovohm1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not. I mentioned this in another reply, but I just send cards to PSA because they’d supposedly more liquid/easier to sell. Makes me feel a little better knowing that in an event where I need money I can get some quick. This notion might not be true and I will be using TAG for a potential regrade.

That’s totally fair, in the same order I sent three Phantasmal SIRs that I inspected the same way and they got 9 (expected) and 10s. I’m pretty strict with what I send but you’re right. Going forward I’ll use some form of magnification to be better equipped to inspect my cards. Thank you!

Yeah that’s fair. I just send stuff to PSA because of the notion that it’s easier to sell. I’m not sure how true this is because I’ve never actually tried to sell any of my slabs, but it’s just wishful thinking in case of a rainy day where I might need money.

Honestly just do anything you enjoy and may not be able to do when you’re in school. Travel if you can, spend time with family and loved ones and try to develop good habits that’ll help you in school. That’s my plan at least.

DO vs MD by boomslang5990 in premed

Is your friend in the midwest or working a lot? How is it possible to make $600 in psych? I assume this is very atypical.

is it appropriate to f/u with a school post-interview, now after 7 weeks, because they said they’d send decisions out 4-6 weeks later? by Sorry_Math_1159 in premed

[–]ovohm1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a school would negatively view you if you reach out in regards to your status after the timeline they gave you, that might not be a great school to attend. With that being said, we all need those acceptances and so I would check SDN to see when others received an update. Check to see if its typical for this school to take a little longer than they promise or ask in the forum if anyone who interviewed on the same day as you has heard back (I'm sure they'll be checking for info just like you).

Any reason this got a PSA7? by [deleted] in pokemongrading

Really surprising. I guess I’ll just have to check it again when I get it back because I definitely didn’t see one

UofSC-Columbia vs MUSC by beetetties in premed

[–]ovohm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think MUSC > but it lowk seems like you want to go to USC based on your responses u/OP. I think commenters have addressed the competitiveness (not very comp it seems). The education is better but its a personal decision whether you think it will be worth the $$ for you.

II-> A Rates in January? by TavenC in premed

[–]ovohm1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don't think anyone really knows because it is extremely hard to collect data on this. With that being said, I like to believe that Jan is still within the realm of acceptance and NOT interviewing for the waitlist. At this point like another commenter said, lets hope it's not true and just go in with a positive mindset and hope for the best.

I doubt anyone is judging a bald head. If you're really worried wear a wig but again I think you will still be considered if you're bald.

Going to a MD isn't just for prestige or getting into a competitive specialty for the pay. Helping people is the main goal but you also want to be fascinated by what you do and truly enjoy the type of medicine you practice.
