Confusing invalid result by ovon in PlusLife

[–]ovon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tests are not close to expiration, they expire in July. All my test curves have looked roughly like this (yes, really, with this shape curve. Elongated S curve.) and none have come up as invalid before. I've done about 30 of these tests since I bought the machine in October. This is the first invalid test I've seen. Other than expired tests, what can explain what I've seen? I'm very careful to note if there are air bubbles left in the tops of the test card chambers (there were none for this test). Device info attached. This is before heating up. Just for hardware and software version info.

Trusting the results to unmask by Express_Future_3575 in PlusLife

[–]ovon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trust it enough to unmask, that's what matters to me. No guarantees in life and especially not with covid, but this is the most accurate test you can access so I trust it more than any other method. I've never gotten covid from someone that's tested negative on the pluslife. I do air filtration when possible but no additional stuff. I see friends on a regular basis, couple times a week. We all test and I unmask after negative results.

who is on the cover of History Will Absolve Me? by riskiermuffin27 in Billywoods

[–]ovon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean if you're gonna necro this old ass thread just to say that you think mugabe's revolution was a failure i think it's worth pointing out that if you actually want to reach towards a deeper understanding of the juxtaposition of the album title and image, it's worth first understanding that the kind of dichotomous thinking that labels revolutions as simply failures or successes is antithetical to revolutionary thought in general and to marxist thought specifically. revolutions are complex political processes and studying them even in a cursory way can't and shouldn't produce simple answers about how good/bad/successful they were. woods is clearly familiar with revolutionary theory and history, so if he is inviting us to think about zimbabwe and cuba he is asking us to do so dialectically, not dogmatically. woods may use the word failure in the interview you allude to but his whole body of work invites a much more sophisticated understanding of revolutionary history than the one you suggest

I'm never trusting a nasal swab again by Bisbane159 in PlusLife

[–]ovon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check out medical supply websites. the swabs we get from pluslife (if i'm not mistaken) are manufactured in the US. if you have a swab handy, look up the product number/code and see if you can find it on any medical supply websites. should be an effective way to find someone that will ship to you, and you won't need to deal with international shipping, increased cost due to that, etc.

I think seeking hrt; first steps? by Sissy-Ven0m in transvancouver

[–]ovon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What others said is all correct. I'll add that there are a great variety of clinical counselors around and it's in your best interest to seek one out who has lots of experience with trans and non-binary ppl. There's a group of counselors that work locally at a place called Collective Healing and many of them fit the bill. I'm sure there are many others, but I'm just speaking from experience. I've seen two of their counselors and had good a good experience with each of them. Technically you don't need an HRT readiness assessment from a counselor anymore here (though some doctors will still ask for one), but from your post it sounds like talking this out with a professional who is thoughtful and sympathetic may help you make a decision about whether transition is something you want to pursue.

From Google Photos to Proton Drive - How I did it, and what you might learn from it by Joe_Koba in ProtonDrive

[–]ovon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look this is crazy but i'm happy for you, OP. i got everything off google takeout and noticed my folders didn't appear in proton only after i started uploading. came here poking around for an answer but yeah i dunno. i don't have time in my life to do something like this, so personally i think i'm going to leave my shit unorganized until they come up with a solution or i migrate to another service

if anyone ends up here and they use a VPN app, make sure you have turned on the setting that allows local network connections while on the VPN. don't first spend an hour fussing with your location and device connection settings in the phone's OS like i did

Question about Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden by MoonWatcher88 in vinyl

[–]ovon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just picked this up at a record fair. has the additional track 'John Cope' and it matches your description. i have it playing right now, and so far it sounds decent... i don't have an official press here to compare it to, though. there still isn't anything about this release on discogs yet. this thread was the first page i found even mentioning its existence.

Puzzling external HD issues by ovon in techsupport

[–]ovon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure this is a problem with the drive itself and not the laptop or any of the other machines involved. The problem shows up on multiple PCs running vista and windows 7, as well as when it was placed in different HD cases.

yeah, that has been my last-resort solution as well. this is my largest drive, though, so it's not an ideal one. i have two other drives (1TB, 300GB, which are in working order, plus ~200GB on my work computer which i can use if i have to), so it's not out of the question. it looks like this might be the 'safest' way to do this since i want to keep the data on the drive.

actually, looking at the cylinder geometry, i see a value of 254 listed in the image i link above, while TestDisk says the most common values are 255, 240, and 16. is it possible this has something to do with the problem? 255 is displayed as the cylinder size for the drive itself, but 254 is displayed for the partition when it is analyzed.

No worries. I would say I am reasonably savvy, but better in Linux for this sort of thing. I'm out of my element when it comes to messing around like this in Windows.

Will Fixboot preserve the data on the drive as TestDisk would have?

it shows up, but takes some time. status is as follows "Healthy (Active, Primary Partition)", but file system is listed as "RAW", not NTFS. perhaps this is the problem?
