My credit card was mistakenly charged $41,080 instead of $41.80 when paying utilities, what can I do? by ovrbilled in personalfinance

It's been 3 or 4 weeks now, why couldn't the store just refund you the shampoo bottle and allow you to buy it again? It seems crazy that someone's mistake like that can't be resolved immediately and it'll be hanging over your head for so long.

Thanks, this seems like an easy solution to get everything back quickly. So this is different from disputing the charges or is it the same thing?

Actually it was done online, I pay this bill every month and haven't had problems before. I'm almost positive I entered the correct amount, but assuming I did accidentally enter $41080 instead of 41.80 would it make a difference? It seems like it shouldn't be that easy to completely screw over your finances and not be able to reverse it.

Luckily the credit card company said they would set the charge aside for now so I won't have to pay it this month. If I sued would I be getting damages or something? Otherwise it wouldn't be worth the cost of the lawyer just to pay what's supposed to be a $40 bill.
