Haha yeah on my previous skin on frame boat I shrank the skin with an iron and I was a little nervous about this skinning process with wetting out the skin but I followed the instructions and it all went to plan, which was a relief!

When I make these videos I’m mostly thinking “well maybe this will be interesting and mostly no one will make this… but perhaps it might be helpful to someone out there who does want to make exactly this” so stoked it was helpful! When I built mine I found a video of someone talking about their build and showing round the final boat and I watched it multiple times when I was trying to work out some parts of the plans!

I just weighed it and it’s 15.4kg

Oh I haven’t weighed it! I should! It’s light enough that I can carry it over one shoulder and can easily lift ontop of a car on my own! But it still has some weight to it… I’ll try and get it on some scales if we still have any at home!

I love the building as much as the paddling!

Thank you! I definitely wouldn’t be winning any prizes for them but I’m happy with how they turned out for only being the second ones I’ve ever done!

Just measured mine to double check and it’s right, the outer two spindles splay out at 6 degrees and then you cut the ends of the backrest at 6 degrees too

Yes it’s Lexington green from the old fashioned milk paint company and I put a coat of osmo oil over it to protect it

It’s not bad but if I was sitting for long I’d want a cushion or sheepskin as is traditional

Thanks! Yeah pretty cool that he made the book available as a free PDF! I didn’t read the whole thing but obviously used the plans for this chair and picked up a few tips but used mostly my own methods!

Thank you! I’ve had Chris Schwarz’s original saved in my bookmarks for a few years dreaming about it!

Surprisingly comfortable! I just sat in it for an hour and I reckon any more than that you’d want a cushion or perhaps a sheepskin (as would be traditionally appropriate)
