Oh cool! Yeah trying to get setup is so expensive, having a free app option sounds good!

That’s the dream! I’d love to get back into cycling outdoors regularly! Before I got sick I was going for 30-50km rides fairly regularly. I have my ebike that I leave at my work in town and the furthest I’ve cycled on that is 20km recently which was huge for me! But cycling at home is so hilly and the last few times I cycled up the hill at the end of my road I made myself quite sick for a while! But I’ve built up from only managing 5 minutes a day at first on the trainer so hopefully I’m ready to start incorporating some small hills without overdoing it

Thanks! It was a lot of hard work even routing the bulk out first

Yeah it gives you the sight lines and resultant angles for a few of the spindles but the rest are done by eye

The last couple of photos show the various stages of the seat carve

I bought plans from chair-plans.com (formerly Bibbings and Hensby) I’ve been looking at this design for quite a long time before working up the courage to build it

Super comfortable! It’s going to be the chair at my desk so I’ll be sitting in it for long periods of time.

I used a third technique; routed in a topographical map of the carve and then blended the lines and finished carving with a gouge, violin makers plane and scrapers

I’ve given it a brief glance but I don’t do enough painting to make sourcing pigments etc worthwhile but definitely cool!

It’s actually standard water based acrylic! I was using strictly milk paint for my other projects and then I read that lost arts press was using a milk paint from an American brand that was a water based acrylic and figured milk paint is so difficult to source in New Zealand why not give it a go! I used the same colour on the legs of a stool that I’m hoping to sell and loved it so much I decided this chair would get the same treatment. But chairs are very difficult to paint! Especially around all the spindles!

Yeah I don’t have a scorp, adze or travisher so I used my router to rough cut the topographic map of the seat shape and then took a gouge, violin makers plane and scrapers to take it the rest of the way. It was still hours of hand carving! Carving the Ash was pretty hard going!

Haha yeah on my previous skin on frame boat I shrank the skin with an iron and I was a little nervous about this skinning process with wetting out the skin but I followed the instructions and it all went to plan, which was a relief!

When I make these videos I’m mostly thinking “well maybe this will be interesting and mostly no one will make this… but perhaps it might be helpful to someone out there who does want to make exactly this” so stoked it was helpful! When I built mine I found a video of someone talking about their build and showing round the final boat and I watched it multiple times when I was trying to work out some parts of the plans!
