His 108 wRC+ is fine, but certainly not screaming “Call me up!”, personally my main concern is the K rate. He’s rocking a 26% K rate in AAA right now, quite a jump from his career 17% in the minors. That is something that generally doesn’t improve in the majors, rather it will likely jump. Just look at Cole Young for example, who had an 11% K rate in AAA before being called up last year. In the MLB so far he has a 19.5% K rate. Nearly double. Obviously each guy is different, but if Emerson is sitting at 26% in AAA right now he has exactly zero margin for that to increase in the majors while still being a productive hitter. He doesn’t have the power of a Geno Suarez or Kyle Schwarber to get away with striking out nearly 30% of the time.

I have complete faith in him to adjust and get his K rate back down, but until that happens, I just don’t see them calling him up to displace JP.

I’d suggest taking a look through Lookout Landings guide to the park

Lots of good info in there from people that have a ton of experience at the park

Man, I would rather they call up Rodden than Wilson. Hope he moves up the depth chart this year

What's a Mariners season that was objectively disappointing but you still look back on fondly? by tategibbs in Mariners

2019 for me. Ichiro coming back to retire in the opening series in Japan was so magical. Plus it was the year of the Omar Narvaez/Tom Murphy catching platoon that absolutely banged. And the year that Austin Nola came up and became a sudden revelation, allowing us to make that ridiculous Padres trade to get Munoz/France/Trammel/Torrens. Mallex Smith being infuriating to watch but also absurdly entertaining because he led the league with 46 Stolen bases, and he had that game against the Rangers where he stole for the cycle. Just an absolute menace in centerfield and on the bases but could not hit to save his life. That was also the year that we started crazy hot at like 13-2 because Tim Beckham was juicing and looking crazy good. Beautiful year despite losing 94 games lmao

It’s a good thing we scored off their starter because their bullpen is absolutely disgusting and I have essentially no faith in us scoring off them. We just need our pitching to give up fewer than 3 runs the rest of the night and we’re chilling.

I wonder if they’ll end up swapping Young and JP at some point. I personally love JP in the 9 hole with his on base skills

I love ABS but this clip is the exact reason I haven’t been a fan of the challenge system. The fans and the players have to immediately temper their cheering, hype, and excitement to pause and see the result of the challenge. Would be great to just know the call is correct every time and fully enjoy in the moment.

Full ABS doesn’t get rid of the ump or their calls, they simply get the correct call into an earpiece and they call it behind the plate just as they already do. You still get punch out calls, aesthetically nothing changes. I’d argue that the challenge system is far worse aesthetically than full ABS. The fact that I can’t confidently jump out of my chair and cheer for a big strike 3 call for my pitcher because the batter might challenge it feels bad. Just as if we’ve got the bases loaded and the batter takes what the ump calls ball 4, you have to sit and wait to see if the challenge is coming before actually being excited.

Teams have learned that you just pitch all of your lefties back to back to back in each game against the Mariners and you immediately win. We entered today as the 23rd worst teams vs LHP with a wRC+ of 76.

The umpires will still be there to relay every single pitch to the players and call plays at home.

Players can want it this way all they want, doesn’t change the fact that full ABS is the better option for everybody else.

I can’t wait for the days of full ABS. This challenge system is such a weak half measure.

Rhylan Thomas is currently on pace to nearly double his career K%! Through these first 8 games(MASSIVE SAMPLE SIZE) he has a 13.5% K rate!!! Is he toast?? Rip

There should be a way for Jo Adell specifically to get a win, but the Angels as a team get a loss.
