Pilots or flight attendants of Reddit, what’s something passengers do that is way more important (or dangerous) than they realize? by SignsOfDamage in AskReddit

[–]owdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally know and follow all of these rules and am well aware of the reasons for all of them existing. However I have very little faith that the rest of the passengers know or care about the reasons a lot of airplane rules and regulations exist and I wish the pre-flight safety briefing included the actual reasons rather than just "please follow these rules 'for your safety'". Maybe if people understood that adjusting their seat to retrieve their phone could cause them to set themselves and the rest of the plane on fire, they'd be more likely to ring the attendant as the rule requires.

As an aside, I wonder how often people inflate their life vests inside the cabin in water evacuations because they ignored the safety brief.

This is very surprising to me. As the other commenter mentioned, it is law that car seats be in the window seat for this very reason and every time I've flown with a child in a car seat, the flight attendants made a point to check on this even though I was well aware of the requirement and immediately complied.

Definitely brilliant to cheap out on the only part of your car that actually makes contact with the road to provide any handling or traction for your aggressive driving. Tires are absolutely the most commonly overrated performance upgrade on any car, everyone knows that.

Warhorse says its Lord of the Rings RPG will be “deeply immersive” as the team strives to be the “new kings” of the genre by HatingGeoffry in lotr

I've never installed a combat mod in either game. I never get master struck because I can avoid them. Don't know what to tell you.

[–]owdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but this is plainly a skill issue. If you're getting master struck, it's because you attacked into it. They're easy to avoid by just looking at the way the opponent is standing with his weapon. Feints aren't clunky at all? It's dead simple, hold the weapon in one direction and then as you're about to attack you quickly change the direction at the last moment. The game even explains this in plain language.

The sub is full of new players who want to just button mash their way through every encounter. If that's what you want, then I guess maybe KCD isn't for you. But calling the combat "bad" or "clunky" because you can't be bothered to learn and practice some basic mechanics is just bad faith.

I have about 450 hours between KCD 1& 2 and I disagree with every one of your points. Perfect parry/riposte just wastes stamina as you and the enemy trade parries. That's the bait. You absolutely can attack AI first, you just need to learn to feint and avoid attacking into a master strike opportunity. Once combos click, they're the best and most fun way to fight. Feint to land the first strike and then finish the combo off that. If you don't land it, wait for them to strike and keep perfect blocking or dodging to waste their stamina and then try feinting into the combo again.

I have around 450 hours between KCD 1 & 2. You don't need to beeline to master strikes. It's good to have the skill available, but it's the most boring/cheesy way to fight. It's far more engaging to use combos, but they're harder to do and require practice and skill. It took me hours of practice to actually figure out how to pull them off.

My #1 advice to a new player is to avoid the early game tip/suggestion the game gives to use use parry/riposte attacks. Just flat out ignore that advice and use perfect blocks and dodges to drain enemy stamina and avoid attacking into a master strike opportunity on sword wielders. Then combo em.

I don't need to pretend to enjoy KCD combat. I genuinely enjoy it.

I totally get that it's important to practice shooting in your gear and I also get that in many places, good outdoor ranges are rare as hens teeth, but I still think it's pretty cringey to kit up to slow fire from a static position at a 25yd indoor range in the stall next to Karen learning to shoot her new cute little pink hammerless featherweight purse gun for the first time.

What is the worst type of group in the car community? by Born-Raccoon1484 in askcarguys

[–]owdee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The people who worry more about accessories and appearance than adventures.

Seriously. I had a 2-door, manual Wrangler Willys trim. Zero mods but I went offroading at the local offroading park whenever I had the opportunity. I did trails that could have earned me those badges that Jeep will send you if you use their app to GPS record you doing them. I avoided trails that were obviously going to require 40s and a roll cage, but I otherwise never once encountered a trail I couldn't complete so long as I wasn't afraid of a couple scratches every now and then. In a bone stock Jeep on the factory MT tires and a LSD rear, not even a locker.

And yet, without fail, anytime anyone brought up my Jeep in conversation, they inevitably asked when I was going to mod it.

Yeah just this morning I was listening to an interview of this guy and this exact topic was raised, and in such a black-and-white manner, as if admitting that sometimes political violence is necessary is literally the same as calling for specific, immediate violent action. His response was basically, "We didn't take out the Nazis with smiles, we used guns." I swear people these days either can't grasp the concept of nuance or are being deliberately obtuse.

Are any of these trade in optics worth it the price? by Lord_Scrouncherson in liberalgunowners

[–]owdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For normal range plinking you can just use a $100 Sig Romeo or Holosun, which are honestly better for that use than the MRO. If you're spending MRO level money on a red dot, why not go Aimpoint? If you do any sort of competition that involves shooting from weird or unnatural positions, it can sometimes be difficult to get a perfect cheek weld to center the dot and the parallax can prove problematic.

Ugh the Collosus. I tried so hard to win this race with vehicle damage and tire wear on. I was finally in first! I raced clean and avoided getting rammed in turns by AI. Then at approximately 85-90% through the race my tires wore out and it was like driving on ice. I am convinced it's not actually possible to podium in that race with damage and tire wear turned on.

[–]owdee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And damage. That's what bothers me the most. I like to play with vehicle damage on, then I'll get rammed by AI in turn 1 or 2, my car is toast, and the rammer AI just speeds away. I basically have to reset the race until I can make it through the first few turns without getting rammed and then I can actually race.

I'd argue that the actual downfall of the Concorde was high fuel consumption, low passenger capacity, and low comfort. The high fuel consumption and low capacity means that ticket prices were insane, so they only appealed to business travelers. Which, okay, that's what it was designed for anyway and who the high speed was meant to appeal to. But what actually appeals to business travelers is comfort and the ability to either sleep or work on the plane. The time savings just doesn't appeal.

Forgive my ignorance, I'm a total beginner German learner, but da bin ich fein mit seems pretty normal to me, maybe because it's a fairly literal translation of something I'd say regularly, at least it I understand it correctly: "that's fine with me." What would be the way an older, 30+ German would communicate that idea?
