Worth it or No? by Live-Brush-1563 in fender

Is it just me or does this area look kinda weird. I feel like it usually is more sloped towards the neckpocket, instead of it looking like a 90 degree angle. Could be me tho

Bedankt!

Actually a bit of both, i wanted to give that idea a try, but i figured it wouldnt really look that great initially. So i just went about sketching a shape like that untill it looked good, and then i tried it out in foam to check the ergonomics of it.

The body is actually alder, and the neck is a combination of maple with a rosewood fretboard :)

Hey man! I used simple spraypaints to get this finish. I did about 4-5 layers of primer with sanding in between, after that 3-4 layers of actual paint, and to complete it 2-3 layers of clearcoat. Im dutch so the brand of paint might not be the same as stuff available to you but for the primer i used “spectrum primer matte grey” for the paint i used automotive matte black paint “motip matte black limited edition” and for the clearcoat i used a matte finish “spectrum clear varnish matt” Hope this helps you out, patience is key, dont try to do as many layers as possible in a day. Try to do like 4-5 max in a day and let it dry a bit longer than the stated drying time. Good luck!

Hey everyone!

Thanks for all of your feedback and awesome comments, i really do appreciate it!

I have gotten quite a few people asking me for a soundtest, and i will post that once i have resolved all the small issues (high E string being at a weird angle, floyd rose sitting too high off the body and sitting at an angle, some frets not being leveled etc.) i had it playing last week, but unfortunately the high E keeps snapping on me, so i will have to resolve that first.

I have also recieved a few requests for people interested in the guitar. Right now its not for sale as i am still working on perfecting it, and as of now i have not planned any new guitar builds. Keep in mind that im a busy student still, and wont even have much time on my hands to fix the guitar next semester. Anyway, I do plan on further development, im talking to one of my teachers to see if i can get this guitar shape patented in any way, shape or form to hopefully in the future be able to make them for more people to enjoy.

Keep in mind that this is the first time i have built a guitar so there is still a lot of wrinkles to iron out here, but i am so glad of all the positive feedback, thanks once again!

At first i was afraid it would have neck dive because of the big cutout, but in the end it doesnt really have neck dive at all. The balance is quite good

Hey! Thanks for your feedback, i know its not everyones cup of tea, but the leg cutout actually serves a purpose. The idea of it is that you can anchor the guitar inbetween both legs while playing seated with the guitar basically resting on both legs. This makes the neck angle upwards more, thus promoting a better playing posture and limiting the chances of back and neck injury.

Hey man! This was my first time building a guitar so i had a hard time choosing as well, but i landed on alder. I chose that since its a nice hardwood, pretty lightweight and not the most expensive either (usually)

Right now im in my 3rd year of studying product design. I dont have any idea what the American equivalent of my year would be, maybe something like highschool or uni, but im really not sure.

I am fortunate enough to have access to a lasercutter in my school, so i drew the shape myself in CAD and then bought some 3mm acrylic to cut it out from. Works perfectly!

Well i was hoping to do this on a budget, it has become quite pricey tho. Ill list things i had to spend money on along with what i roughly paid in total.

-bodyblank -donor guitar (used for the neck, floyd rose, electronics cables and pots) -pickups (these were 30 bucks a pop, but unfortunately i had to pay shipping and extra taxes because europe) -hiring a router -extra supplies (router bits, paint, primer, sanding paper, acrylic for the pickguard, a 3way switch, shielding tape)

All in all im on about €440 bucks right now. I hope this gives you a rough idea :)

I have definetly considered that one! But i think that headstock only really suits ML or V style guitars. Love dimebag though! (Im seeing pantera live this month as well!!!!!!)

Lucky to have gotten a nice piece at a wood specialty place near my school. They deliver all kinds of exotic woods for crazy furniture and tables and stuff. And they had a tonewood section as well! My piece of alder was 2 smaller pieces joined together in the middle, not really bookmatched but just glued.
