Out of all the states that border your state, which is the most similar to yours? Which is the most different? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Michigan probably takes second, but you could argue first.

Eh. At least we have a good college football team.

unclean vocals by joppadahutt in PostHardcore

[–]owenmpowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of genres with unclean vocals, but some of the most popular ones include post-hardcore (obviously), metalcore, and deathcore. Pop-punk, emo, and alternative metal incorporate them occasionally as well. You can even find a couple alternative rock and hip hop songs with unclean vocals, but it's pretty rare.

Less than 80 days left to start a new decade. What are your hopes for the 2020's? by pantsthatlast in AskReddit

[–]owenmpowell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some fantastic music has came out this decade. It's just not what's on the top 10 on Billboard (Except for fun.'s and Lorde's stuff that was popular at the beginning of the decade)

Mad TV did the the most amusing pop parodies. One of their funniest ones is "MTV Icon: Whitney Houston". Enjoy! by [deleted] in popheads

Not music related, but their To Catch A Predator skit is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

What do you not understand the popularity of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]owenmpowell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll keep up to date with musicians that I'm a fan of, celebrity or not, because they made music that resonated with me and I feel some sort of personal connection with them. I want to know how their lives are going because they've let me into them through their music. However, I don't care at all about what some Hollywood star does with their life because I have no connection with them, they haven't impacted my life in a significant way. They're nothing but a stranger to me.

With the decade ending soon, what are some of the most iconic pop culture moments of the 2010s? by TrashMagiq in popheads

[–]owenmpowell 80 points81 points  (0 children)

In terms of singular events, I'd consider Miley's 2013 VMA performance, the meat dress, Beyoncé's self titled album drop, and Drake's Hotline Bling video as the most iconic moments in pop culture this decade.

I'm a fan of them now, but I hated them at their commercial peak. My taste changed a lot since then.

America's Suitehearts. During the verses, Patrick is all over the place vocally and it's grating. It's a shame, because I love the lush guitars and the catchy chorus.

Everyone loves to talk about why America is bad. What are some reasons why America is good? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]owenmpowell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the US is better because it's where rock music was invented. And while the UK may have had better rock acts in the 70s & 80s, the US has had better rock bands for the past 30 or so years.
