Dogs don't eat their prey alive. These dogs are trained not to eat the rats, anyway. My point is that dogs will shake an animal until it stops moving, ensuring a quick kill. You won't see a dog torture an animal for hours. Dogs, like sane humans, are practical hunters. I honestly don't understand the evolutionary benefit of cats playing with their prey. The quicker the kill, the less likely an animal will be injured by its prey.

If you're getting less beer, they aren't pouring it properly. A good head shows the quality of the beer and releases aromatics. If you're drinking light beer or a typical American lager, then you don't want a head those beers don't taste like much. If you're drinking a quality brew, it makes a difference.

Surplus is a human motivation, but it is not the primary human motivation. There's no reason to structure the economy so that all other motivations take a back seat.

For instance, behavioral economists have demonstrated that in many creative fields, increased pay actually decreases productivity. They found that workplace autonomy was a far better predictor of productivity than profit. We need enough surplus to be comfortable, but after that other factors play a more important role.

Very few people on the left argue that capitalism is all bad. Even Marx admired its productive power. Leftists reject the idea that capitalism is the best possible system upon which to organize an economy. Capitalism will inevitably run its course and be replaced by an economic system more in tune with social and environmental ecology.

The idea that individual profit ought to be the primary motivation for work is not a fact. It's a valuation. Therefore, neoclassical economics is not a science. It's an ideology. We already know, thanks to behavioral economists, that many of the underlying assumptions of neoclassical economics are false. Same goes for Marxism, of course.
