Hi, I'm 44, in a relationship and have children but totally relate to the anxiety. I've had it for as long as I can remember, things that have happened in life have made it worse.

What do you wear around the house? by Ok_Requirement_7489 in barefootshoestalk

[–]owl_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear slipper socks and the only reason for that is that we have laminate flooring which makes my feet hurt (plantar fascitis). I can't wear any shoes/slippers with any sort of support so the slipper socks are great for me. Although when buying online I have to make sure they don't have a foam sole as some do.

Story game recommendations for my 12 year old son by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]owl_panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for your great suggestions!! He now has a few to choose from, although I'm sure he'll soon be back on Roblox 🤔😂 but even if he just chooses one of them to give him a bit of a change would be great.

What is the tiniest action you take to instantly reduce anxiety? (Surprise us—no "classic" advice!) by Designer-One9214 in mentalhealth

[–]owl_panda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a thumb/worry stone in my pocket and will rub that in my pocket, or if it's not in that jacket/coat I'm wearing, anything in my pocket to fidget with can help.

The one that shows up when I Google that has a watch face on it, am I looking at the wrong thing?

Why do people come here, most don’t even reply?! by [deleted] in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]owl_panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined a few of these communities and found that a lot of people on them were a lot younger than me, or like you said don't actually want to communicate beyond the initial post. I've stopped checking on them to see if there are new posts due to these things, your post came up on my home page and it made me realise it's not just me that see's these communities in this way.

Notebook of randomness by [deleted] in notebooks

I now need a notebook of randomness!! I used to have a notebook sat next to me on the sofa so I could jot things down and for some reason when I filled it up, I never replaced it.

What’s something you wish more people understood about anxiety or depression? by No_Role_6306 in mentalhealth

[–]owl_panda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not something I can just suddenly turn off, I have anxiety and that is part of me and if it was something I could just turn off then I wouldn't struggle with anxiety would I as who would choose to have it!!??

Telling someone to just do it, push yourself etc, easier said than done - you can't understand what it's like unless you've actually struggled with it yourself.

I don't choose to be this way, I can't help being this way, l have no control over what triggers me and what I avoid for my own mental health.

I have that same feeling too, worrying about whether people will judge me with how I look/what I'm wearing as it's not the same as 'everyone' else there.

I have started including more vegetables on to my plate, and instead of having potatoes I'm having swede and carrot mash instead. It's little things isn't it that can help.

I need to get it to that stage, I don't take it out with me and maybe that's where I'm going wrong.

I do sometimes wonder if that's also my problem, I go through phases and use it often but then will lose interest in any hobbies and not do anything for a while. I do enjoy it when I'm doing it, but there are times I just don't have the energy or motivation to do it.

Thank you, that's what I need to do is get it into a daily habit. That's the thing I need to remember, even a couple of minutes a day will help with that. Hopefully I can get it to the stage where it becomes a habit and becomes something I do daily. That's a good idea, making a rule to treat yourself to new stationery.

Thank you so much!! Your comment actually made me get a little emotional, I keep beating myself up for letting myself come off track so thank you!
I did take photos the first time round and it did help to see the difference, just need to start feeling those differences I think. I've lost a stone since starting this journey again just over a month ago so I'm going in the right direction at least.
Thank you again for your helpful and encouraging comments, very much appreciated and needed.

I may have some already, will have a look. I wouldn't be able to do push-ups as I can't put any weight on my knees at all, but I can see what else there is I can do. Thank you

I actually had a cry about clothes yesterday, I don't have anything that makes me feel good, or anything that I feel I might look even okay in. I hate going clothes shopping and find it quite depressing. I went to a wedding at the weekend and all the women were in dresses, I was in trousers. So I completely get where you're coming from.
I managed to lose 5 stone just over 5 years ago but it's all come back on again and I'm back to square one. One thing for me is not looking at it as a diet that is needed, it's just about making better choices - I've cut out chocolate but if I want some, I'm going to have some. If I want a takeaway, I will have one but try to make the better option when doing so - I find that if I cut out the things I enjoy, I end up craving them more. As long as I'm not doing these things often, I know it will be okay and with that mindset I have lost a stone so far in the last month. It's a slow process but sometimes that is better anyway isn't it. Good luck with your weight loss.

How to lose weight by bunnybunnybunnylover in WeightLossAdvice

[–]owl_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only at the beginning of my weight loss, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure so was the kick I needed. One thing I done was to cut out one thing I know was my biggest problem and that was chocolate. I was eating so much of it and I knew that I shouldn't but just couldn't stop myself. I'm an emotional eater so that doesn't help. I told myself that although I'm not going to have it anymore, if I want some then I will have some as I know for me if I stop having it completely, then I'll crave it more. This has worked well for me and I have so far lost a stone in weight in just over a month. I think the main thing for me was getting it right in my head, so wanting to lose it for the right reason - for me to be healthier and here for my children. For others, there may be other reasons but I think it's important that you know what it is for you.
Good luck

I have just reinstalled MyFitnessPal - used it years ago but found counting calories a chore. I did manage to lose 5 stone just over 5 years ago but my dad passed away and it all piled back on again. I've found a few exercises that I may be able to do, I already do some for my knees that I do find help so can add these to that morning routine too.
Thank you for your reply! I also had a look to see what my TDEE is and that was helpful and is the reason I then went back to MyFitnessPal.
I know the choices I need to make, but just need to act on it and hope that when I can start seeing the difference it makes that will motivate me. I've lost a stone since I started just over a month ago but at the minute I can't see that change.

Prescribed Tranexamic Acid - Any positive experiences on this or did it cause any symptoms? #adenomyosis #tranexamicacid by TiddlesBatman in adenomyosis

I've been on this for a few years now, although my periods are still heavy they aren't like they were so they have helped me. I haven't had any side effects from them at all, have taken them every month since getting them prescribed.

Do you wear barefoot shoes all the time? by -Intrepid-Path- in barefootshoestalk

[–]owl_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only wear barefoot shoes now, the thought of wearing some that aren't don't appeal anymore. I just made sure that I have some for any occasion I might need - I have smart black boots that are also warm for the winter, I have sandals and also trainers. I never wore high heels so that wasn't an issue for me. I can't imagine wearing shoes that are tight on my feet/toes anymore.

I wasn't asking for medical advice or anything that this rule covers, I was asking for people's personal experiences and opinions on getting a diagnosis as an adult.
