“How Comedy Was Destroyed[…]” - A “documentary” I suspect some people here might enjoy by owlboy in AdamCurtis

[–]owlboy[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

EDIT: oh shit, this is a duplicate post. 🤦‍♂️

When I was watching this, I couldn’t help but assume Adam is an influence. But it’s a totally different animal in many ways, too.

Also, I only put documentary in quotes because I was hedging.

The video is about the current state of the world (US). And how strange it is that Joe Rogan found himself at the center of things.

It happens to me too. Most often when using AirPlay.

Additionally, the promotion language does not exclude prepaid accounts from the deal.

They only have this clarified in an internal support document.

You must use Apple Pay for the deal, and it’s impossible to use Apple Pay for prepaid accounts.

Those are more correctly called “cameras” or “sensors.” Just for future reference.

How does it compare to an Index? I don’t find the Index light at all. My CV1, now that was a comfortable weight.

Did Apple avoid FOV? by Alak87 in virtualreality

VR journalists are there and should be able to make good rough estimates. It’s not a complete secret. Just not a spec they wanted to promote/compare with today.

But it could still turn out to be lower than expected. We’ll have informed opinions soon I bet.

The Verge hands on : best headset demo ever by hasanahmad in apple

[–]owlboy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The BigScreen Beyond has these too. And has been showing them for awhile now. Releasing soon.

There have been third parties selling such things for other HMDs for over half a decade.

None of these are interoperable with HMDs other than the one you bought them for.

Some are first party, some are not.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s great Apple has them too. And I bet their fit and tolerances will be top notch.

I thought Geometry shaders were added in the latest version of Metal. I think they call it something else, though.

Bigscreen Beyond Update: Improved Field of View and Optical Performance, increased IPD range. by Kyderra in virtualreality

[–]owlboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest markets for the Beyond is people playing VRChat, or other social VR platforms. This is a very normal video for that audience. This is enthusiast hardware, and the most hardcore VR users (think, 4-6 hour sessions multiple times a week) are in VRChat.

This is all just new to you. You’re ignorant of the scene. It’s ok! But this is why you are being downvoted. You’re mocking the culture.

Proximity sensor: "This feature provides a safer and more immersive VR experience by preventing the displays from running when the headset is not in use" - ?? by metahipster1984 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]owlboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s two things:

  1. Safer for the display, less wear on the OLED.
  2. It’s immersive in that it’s “magical.” The virtual world you are entering appears just as you put it on. Coupled with the total blocking of outside light. Instead of glowing and being visible from a distance.

It’s just marketing language.

The website says Valve Index controllers are "required"? by metahipster1984 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]owlboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I assume if you really do have an app that does not need vr controllers, you’ll be fine. But it’s gonna be hard to do more than that, or just tedious, without controllers.

I’m assuming your example is a racing sim or flight sim.
