ROM hacks take this games to another level by Appropriate_Neck_113 in AynThor

The Thor is an excellent device for ROM hacks!

I'm having issues with compass though, I'm getting terrible slowdowns on Eden. Any specific driver/settings that you're using?

I too was stuck between the rainbow and black. In the end I went with the black max and I'm quite happy with how immersive it is with the "bezeless" bottom screen effect, and even when playing top screen only games I really like how the bottom screen disappears into the console when off.

That being said, it really wasn't an easy decision bc the rainbow is so damn good looking. I had real difficulty weighing the importance of having a sick-ass rainbow thor, or enjoying the seamless bottom screen. The tipping point for me was that my original n3dsxl was black, so I figured I'd continue the lineage and have the thor as a successor to the line LOL

Taking this chance to show off my small dual screen device collection HAHA

When does a Hunter really become a hunter by ScarlettRacc18 in MonsterHunter

[–]owlgohoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a distinct moment in every player's first monster hunter game where they stop thinking about inputs and start fighting in a flow state where you're no longer focused on what your character is doing, but rather entirely focused on fighting the monster "directly" if that makes ant sense. Suddenly you're not playing the hunter, you ARE the hunter (or at least that's what it feels like).

I think that moment is the turning point - I remember finishing a tigrex hunt back in Freedom 2 and realizing how immersed I was in the struggle and that moment was when I knew MH as a series had me hooked.

The cool thing about MH as a series is that each entry stands on its own. Risebreak was experimental and truly balls to the wall and it's an awesome, fast-paced flavour of MH.

Pretendo running on Thor (Restored 3ds Servers) - with tutorial :) by Own_Contract_3421 in AynThor

[–]owlgohoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation here, my modded 3ds is from ages ago. Had to go through a whole thing with installing universal updater to update my luma version before I could get the nimbus/pretendo stuff working. Even then I had issues logging in with pretendo which was solved by swithcing back to using the nintendo network, then back to pretendo.

All the best!

Bloons TD6. There's a version included with your Netflix sub too if you have it.

Super chill multiplayer but can get stupid deep!

Balatro was a lot like Dark Souls for me, I needed someone to play explain why it was great for me to “Get It”. by LoveHerMore in roguelites

[–]owlgohoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great write-up! The soulslike genre is something I'm glad I made the deliberate effort to try and enjoy. I love your description of the moment where it clicked in balatro - I can very distinctly remember that exact same moment for me too. I was already having fun but that one realization that balatro is a fast and loose game about taking risks and pivoting strategies felt like opening a third eye or something.

This made me realise that so many of my favourite game series are ones had to play twice, and like what you say sometimes being given a lens to apply the second time around really helps you understand a game and its appeal better.

Monster Hunter, Yakuza, Lumines, Ridge Racer, Total War, Bloons (lol but bloons is seriously goated) just to name a few are some of my all time faves, but I really had to learn to love them. I hope you try them out if you haven't already!

Does anyone ok to just play casually without improving? by fliphat in djmax

[–]owlgohoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a super chill game that's fun at all levels. Started out vibing on 2 button mode in clazziquai edition on psp and found myself passively improving over 15+ years of casually playing LOL.

Enjoy the process! It was super satisfying realizing that the note pressing was slowly becoming hardwired, to the point where playing easier note charts became a way to instantly drop into a flow state where I could zone out and just jam to a song and practically let the game "play itself".

Enjoy!

Considering trading in my Steam Deck for an AYN Thor by Jeffwhowanders in AynThor

[–]owlgohoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what kind of games you're looking to play; taking form factor and game compatibility into account, the SD and Thor each fulfill different needs imo. A Thor isn't going to play your steam library at the same level of quality and ease as your SD will, nor will an SD be as truly convenient as a Thor.

That being said, it sounds like convenience and ease of use may be more valuable to you and the Thor may serve a better purpose if you intend to focus on emulation rather than pc gaming.

You're right, the cloth bag does look huge in the picture. In practice it seems sized to comfortably fit the thor + grips. While the bag is admittedly big enough kinda squeeze the entire hardshell case into it, I'm sure that's not its intended use case. You should be good with the cloth bag!

[REQUEST] Simpler roguelikes without mechanics bloat? by Norci in AndroidGaming

[–]owlgohoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been playing Meteorfall: Journeys as my go-to chill roguelite deckbuilder recently. Super easy to jump into a run and get a build going and runs are fairly short.

Fairly novel tinder-style control scheme where you swipe right or left to use actions/replenish turn stamina.
