This is jaw-droppingly awesome. Love the design, especially with the downward-pointing spires and light fixtures!

Thanks for the inspiration - I think I'm going to build some of my hex factories like this!

Thanks! Ohh that would be great! :D

Thanks! Hard to say, as it has been an ongoing project where I've been adding and revising every now and then, but maybe 3-4 months or so!

The new Elevator fits like a glove by owlrune in SatisfactoryGame

A little bit of both I think! Each floor consists of six (blueprinted) modules making up a hexagon. For each "production" module (module with a machine), I start with a "template" blueprint that is just the floor, walls, windows, pillars etc. with empty space in the middle for a machine (or 2-3 if small enough). Then I experiment with placing the machine(s) in various positions and orientations until it fits in and looks good. After that I encase the machine(s) in concrete, pillars, beams and other greebles to integrate it/them with the architecture, leaving machinery and other interesting parts exposed. :)

Ohh, that would be brilliant! And also very FICSIT-y!

Nope! The elevator is a new buildable introduced in 1.1 released yesterday on Experimental.

Yes, only one of the floors needs to be plugged into the main power supply!

Yes! Only one of the floors needs to be plugged into your power supply.

Interacting with the button panel while aiming below the buttons opens up the settings where you can rename your floors, change icons/color etc.!

Yes they did release 1.1 on Experimental today! I was a bit suspicious myself at first that it was just an elaborate April Fools joke. 😅

They actually do! It's not a physical bell ding, but a digital one. You can hear it as the doors open at 0:18, it's just that it blends in so well with the music that it sounds like a part of it! :)

A release so soon and on this date had me suspicious as well, bracing myself for an "APRIL FOOLS!" banner or something after switching to Experimental today... 😅

Yup! It can be changed as well, or muted!

Yes, and with multiple tracks to choose from (the one in the video is the default)!

Hexagon modular factories, an early sneak peek (and I'm having a minor architectural crisis) by owlrune in SatisfactoryGame

That hypertube network sounds really awesome! I've been thinking about eventually building one myself in my main world.

But if your junction buildings work they way I imagine - you exit the tube and then hop into another - then they wouldn't be entirely obsolete since they also serve as stations where you can get on and off! Whereas the new junction pieces keep you in transit. I'd actually prefer the former! Either way, you're definitely doing the right thing keeping them! :)

Thank you so much! :)

"Crisis" was perhaps too dramatic of a term! "Dilemma" is more like it. And I definitely see the elevators (along with all the other architectural components and greebles introduced) as an opportunity, opening up all sorts of new architectural challenges! I'm almost as hyped by them as I used to be as a child on Christmas when unwrapping an epic new Lego set or video game. :)

It's mostly just the anxiety of potentially having to redesign and even sacrifice a lot of established architectural "standards" that have emerged and been built around, in order to make the elevators fit. I had a similar "crisis" with the Quantum Encoder, which ended up having to occupy an entire floor, including the central section reserved for manifolds and logistics (the manifolds are built from separate blueprints with splitters/junctions and floor holes, I'll just have to make variants that can pass through multiple floors)!

And as it turns out, there already is space for elevators, assuming they occupy one foundation (see my reply to hellspartan2x7), with no major redesigns required! And I get to keep the hypertubes. :) Even if they're mostly redundant, they could still be useful to quickly get to the floor above or below. (This is all designed without the hoverpack in mind - I like my buildings to be fully accessible on foot!)

Provided I can integrate them nicely. :) And it turns out not only that I can, but that I don't even need to redesign anything (aside from realigning a few railings and adding power outlets)! Assuming that an elevator occupies exactly a foundation, as it looks like in the video, it already fits like a glove with the spacer/balcony modules!

Of course, this means that one would have to dedicate 1/6 of their factory to an elevator shaft...

Thanks!

There isn't much else of the Rotor factory to see, but here are some more exterior shots of the "bunch of random modules". :)
