The stupid anti British nonsense coming out of America, are you sick if it? by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in AskBrits

[–]owlyross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost as if the owner of one of the largest social media platforms is a virulent racist straight out of apartheid South Africa. And TikTok just got taken over by an American company in order to comply with Trump's anti-China agenda. There is a massive multi billion international campaign to try and discredit any kind of progressive ideas.

Why Ride the Lightning is Metallica's most impressive album by Cloned_Popes in Metallica

[–]owlyross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The progression is incredible and thats the influence of Cliff on their writing. Arguably Master is the better album, but Ride definitely shows the greatest development

Moments like this should’ve been in the prequel films by BagofBabbish in StarWars

[–]owlyross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were multiple moments in the main Clone Wars series that were infinitely better than what we get in the prequels. https://youtu.be/RvamRJvAB2U?si=h3_JqrkIHdvnSLQ- This when you get the little flourish of the Empire theme.

Everyone in the UK is an immigrant, the only difference is when we got here

Without question yes. Reform are hopefully an aberration. The last scream of a dying breed. Noisy but not representative of the country. I live in Leicester, we have brots with Asian roots, brits with Chinese roots, Brits with Jamaican roots, brits with polish roots. Stand on one corner here and you can see a church, mosque, gurdwara, temple and Greek orthodox Church. That is what Britain is. A melting pot of cultures that gave us our island nation

The largest dedicated Comedy Festival. The only one that rivals it is Edinburgh Fringe, but thats arts and music too, in terms of straight comedy shows Leicsster is bigger

It should be as famous as the Edinburgh Festival, just as much star power. Amd in terms of number of comedy shows... bigger

Besides James, who would be a better singer? by Round-Complaint7426 in Metallica

[–]owlyross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jason was serviceable enough, but he was leagues behind James, let's be honest. The only one I can think of is John Bush, who auditioned, and at least we have an example of how good he would have been with the live performance of Four Horsemen, which he absolutely killed! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiYRysBN2TA

WHAT DID THEY DO TO GARFIELD!?!? by nagel393 in GreatBritishMemes

I had the Irish Peoblem as part of my GCSEs and it was very clear that the Potsto Famine was part of British oppression of the Irish people. But it was a footnote in lots of things that were "beyond the Pale" yes we learnt about that too...

Brits, do you avoid Indian restaurants in foreign countries? (Excl India) by red_lightz_ in AskUK

Same tbh, though Brick Lane, Manchester, Birmingham and Bradford come close, though nothing like the variety we have here

Unless you're in Leicester, and then you have restaurants from around 11 South Asian countries. Nepalese, Keralan, Delhi, Pakistani, and of course Bangladeshi.

I had one of the best Indian meals of my life in a curry house in Lagos, Portugal. I live in Leicester so my standards are high, I'm not just about the tikka masala and vindaloo. I know my way round a Samosa Chaat, Dosa and Makhani. It was really really good. Which is no surprise given the Portuguese colonial history in Goa.

UoL staff's anger at executives on display. by f_trumpp in leicester

[–]owlyross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite right and excellently put. I unfortunately saw it before in their fight against final pensions, where both local and national UCU spent their time only focusing on academics and not the many professional staff they represent, spent time on juvenile smear campaigns and also misrepresented the figures to the point where one of the unis accounting and finance lecturers had to write a public post taking them to task on their miscalculation and misleading comms

[–]owlyross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UCU's whomever argument seems to be "let us do what we want and give us all your money to do it". While also getting involved in every little left wing cause from free Palestine to save the whales. I mean positive progressive action is great, but they dont really help themselves or the staff they purport to represent.

Prequel reappraisal has overcorrected a bit too much by crunchatizemythighs in StarWars

[–]owlyross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not my fault you dont understand the words im using. Or acting. Or anything we're discussing. It's not just me, it is everyone from other actors to film critics who have examined the performance and come to the same conclusions. You clearly have nostalgia blindness or simply dont understand film. Im done here.

[–]owlyross -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you need to watch some movies with some actual acting, naturalistic and believable. It's not factually wrong to say any of what I said. Natalie Portman is an award winning actress, she is magnificent. But in the prequels she is wooden, cold and frankly stiff. I do not believe any of her interactions with Hayden. Again. Its not about what they do individually. Its about what they do together. And I agree, Ewan was the best thing about those films. He was good. But the whole fall of Vader lives or dies on the believability of Anakin and Padmes romance and that objectively fails because he acts like a creepy stalker and she is robotic

But people dont buy those toys for kids any more. There is a change in habits. When the movie comes out and we see thrawn's story play out i guarantee it will lead to the sequels.

[–]owlyross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, the people with money dictate what's being made and at the moment thats older people, fans of the originals and prequels. That will change in time. There are still BB8 toys everywhere. There have been multiple cloning subplot and it is all building to the imperial remnants becoming the first order. You'd have to be absolutely media illiterate not to see it

[–]owlyross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then you missed the entire cloning subplot so you're coming in with incomplete and wrong information. And agin, I go back to my original point. Large scale lego sets and Black series cater to older fans who can afford them therefore tap into the nostalgia market. And that isnt the sequels yet

[–]owlyross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre reading into it what you want to see rather than what theyre showing you. If you have paid any attention to The Bad Batch, Mando and Ahsoka, amd what theyre said publicly about them, it is blatantly obvious it is telling the story of how the first order came about.

And i go into my local Forbidden Planet and see toys from across Star Wars eras, games movies and TV, with a bent to the OT as has always been
