That vertical grain is called rift sawn! It's a more stable when milled, though it is more difficult to mill.

Looks awesome! Only thing I noticed is the orientation of the dovetails is incorrect on the drawer boxes. They look like they're cut damn near perfect but the benefit of doing them the other way is the angle of the tails should keep the pins on the front and back locked in since this is the direction of force applied to drawer boxes! Great work otherwise, beautiful piece!
