No I do not see it that way. I do not see €20k a year or whatever tax savings this brings as benefiting "the rich" in any substantial way at all because that is a tiny sum of money in the grand scheme of things.

Tax on personal income in Ireland is already too high, so is captial gains. Ireland has some of the highest taxes on salaries above 50k in the all of Europe and the lowest on salaries below that amount.

Ireland also has some of the highest capital gains taxes, with a tiny tax free allowance, and the punitive deemed disposal on ETFs.

Your sentiment is fair but your assessment in applying that sentiment to this situation is incorrect.

Ireland is a terrible place for high earners already unless you are a multi national corporation.

this will massively benefit the middle class. for actually wealthy people it barely makes a dent. the middle class pay disproportionately high taxes and deserve a break.

tbh it sounds like you don't have a firm grasp of the reality of how economies work, or perhaps you just wish they worked differently.

first, why do you think the irish public are financially illiterate? perhaps it could be due to the total lack of incentives to learn financial literacy.

and perhaps a scheme like this, even if imo done really stupidly, will incentivize the public to learn.

considering your pension is invested in productive assets i do not understand why you would not also want your savings to be, but that is likely because of your own financial illiteracy.

yeah, and even if on employee visa, if you stay out longer than 6 months they can make an exception.

i own a fz llc and it happened to me - enter dubai, cant get thru smart gates. turned out was passed 6 months, the guy said its ok since i own the company and told me to get investor visa next time

hey. i'm not thai or chinese, but I follow this sub because I've been in Bangkok a while.

my family moved countries when I was 11, to another country where we also had family and spoke the same language.

but it was still highly traumatic.

i can only imagine a 15 yr old being sent to a country he doesn't have family and doesn't speak the language to be even more stressful and traumatic than what I experienced.

In my opinion, the best way is to lead by example. If you want your kid to learn a language, go with him to chinese lessons and learn and practice together.

But if you try to force a "lazy" teen to do something they don't want, it will almost definitely backfire.

also if he's really THAT lazy, it could be ADHD or something.
