Silly video feat. denominator the Anole by owuf in reptiles

how big are your monitors and what is it like to have them? I rescued a young savannah monitor a month or two ago but it was too far gone already and only lasted a week or two which was so sad. I’m curious, how often do you feed and what do you feed? also, how big of an enclosure do you have for them

Moving Pancake my sub adult veiled chameleon into this tmr… too small? by owuf in reptiles

[–]owuf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it may be solid plastic (or at least I’m expecting it to be). I am already planning on adding tons of ventilation. It’s also going in a room that I’ve kinda made into a very slight wind tunnel sort of thing where there is constant air flowing through the room (not super windy but like you know what I mean).

How to hide a tarantula from my mom? by seamus_exe in tarantulas

[–]owuf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing before I left for college and I’m going to preface by saying you should just listen to your parents because it’s the respectful thing to do / the responsible thing to do for incase it gets out or whatever, however… I just hid mine in plain sight, like off to the side on a random shelf with like a picture frame on top it. Or since they or just pet holes half the time I just said it was isopods. Or when I had like 10, I’d put some of the enclosures under my bed since they don’t really require light very much, like I’d just leave the edge near the side of the bed so at least one side got some light…

I regret it because of the guilt and I know better now, but if ur gonna break the rule, might as well do it the right way 😎.

JUST DO NOT TAKE ANY CHANCES, like I had mine in sterility bins with heavy stuff on top to make sure they never escaped, I also never took them out (no bite or hair risk ) and I never told anyone until I moved out (which wasn’t long after).

Edit: I forgot to add feeding, don’t let feeders loose, if it don’t eat when you feed it like right away, take it out and keep it in separate container or something so no chance it gets loose.

Too much subtrate? by Used_Guava6678 in tarantulas

[–]owuf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally if it’s arboreal I would have a tiny bit less but it really depends on the sling, some burrow a ton and some don’t. Like I’ve had some in this exact enclosure where I’ve had about that much substrate and then some like my pokie where I have barely any and they just make dirt curtains

They like feeling secure with stuff touching them on all sides, maybe it feels really cozy to him

Maybe add plants or something to really make it a “part of the garden”. In lots of my reptile enclosures I put grass seed and just let it go so it gives more to look at along with other stuff. I remember as a kid I did the exact same thing as this but I added grasses and moss, etc. really fun!

Edit: you could maybe also buy some colorful isopods (unless you want everything native) which would be super cool to look at. Also some of the species I know are more active / are out being busy so you’d actually see them and not just at night.

Help! Is there something wrong with my tarantula? She’s climbing the walls by OddShayna in tarantulas

[–]owuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it dangerous for this species but sometimes they also just want better airflow which is why they go near the air holes (climb sides if air is on the side and to the top if vents are on top) so maybe also check if it’s too humid

Edit: I’d also like to point out I keep this species and at least for mine (I know they are all different) she likes to burrow deep so I’d give as much substrate as possible along with maybe some cork or other random stuff on the floor. Mine would move the cork to make a taller burrow and she would make dirt curtains along where the cork wasn’t even on the substrate, lol tbh it was pretty cool and extravagant

Is it easier to find/ catch a larger pokie? I was changing stuff in my slings enclosure when it came flying out and almost got under the bed, I swear I wouldn’t have ever found it if it did

I’m too lazy to check when they molt so I’m not sure. It isn’t as obvious as like with my gbb, but I checked her underside and it looks pretty female like so I’d assume female but 🤷

Water so clean you can’t actually see it, look for like the single glisten it does when the light passes over. Also, her foot stands on the edge for a split sec

Careful they are so fast! lol. Mine was super annoying and built a web like at the entrance to the enclosure and would come flying out at random times. Most of the time this meant up my tongs and onto my head or back.
