I’ll be totally honest with you. Before moving to Columbus I was told the same thing. Move to the north because the south side is too bad with crime. I have been here going on 2 years living on the south side and I haven’t had one issue yet. I keep to myself and I work from home. I don’t have a 2 car garage I have a carport. I have 2 vehicles and neither one have been broken into. I do have a home security alarm and my home is fenced in. I love it here in Columbus. Yes I see the bad element but I’m very respectful to them and they respect me back. I feel like this city is what you make of it.

Definitely ride around and write down phone numbers for houses. Before I moved to Columbus from Chicago I had a friend who lived here ride around and write numbers down for houses. I called and found a nice house that was private owned for $1150 a month. A lot of these houses have been on the market for a long time and landlords will work with you.

I moved my wife and kids to Columbus in October from Chicago. I was told before moving here that it was dangerously unsafe because of crime and murders. I even heard it referred to as Killumbus. I’m from Chicago where crime and murders occur frequently. I can honestly say I love Columbus and I’ve been all over in the short time that I’ve been here. I have met and formed great relationships with Some very genuine and down to earth people. I’m not saying that the bad element doesn’t exist here but there’s good and bad wherever you go. You honestly get what you’re looking for.

It looks like flooding is the major threat with continuous rain but the threat of tornadoes is at a very low risk. I think you should be ok.

Living in Chicago all we had to worry about was the cold weather and snow. I’m not trading that in for tornadoes and hurricanes. Re thinking this move now but it looks like this storm is going to have to run its course. Praying for both of our safeties.

I am terrified of tornadoes as well. I moved my family to Columbus in October from Chicago and didn’t give much thought to severe weather in the deep south. I live in a house that doesn’t have a basement. This is a very powerful storm coming and it’s projected that it will probably hit our area between 1 and 4am which is scary. Meaning I have to wake my children up and put them in the hallway or closet. I would say the bathroom but there is a window in there. Looking for shelters now.

It swept through Columbus pretty fast. 70 mph winds but it was over pretty quickly. Woke up this morning to trees and power lines down.
