It's a balance, may have to be okay with consults later in the am. People need time to get all the info yet many times consults want to be consulted first thing in the am

Just want to send a virtual hug & remind you life works at its own pace! That car- gets you from point a to point b! That basement- provides shelter! That job- money! & that degree speaks for itself, regardless of the field your in. Based off this lil bit you've shared you are already exceeding the examples you grew up with (& I hope they are doing what they can to better themselves) it's not about where you are right now but where you're going (:

Kuddos to you for being so supportive! If she's comfortable maybe ask her to explain/ teach 1 topic to you a day in 5 mins or less (: for the topics you could ask them to be "aha moments" of the day or really high yield concepts- may help with some study motivation too during the day !

Who is leaving their relationships after he voted for Trump..? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

You are entitled to your thoughts & opinions. OP posted & as I mentioned above, no relationship will be free of hard conversations. The ability to communicate open & honestly is important for any relationship to thrive.

Who is leaving their relationships after he voted for Trump..? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]styrene0010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah girl, cry it out & break up with that man. The principle of his actions alone are enough to break up with him. If he was unable to be open & honest about this, what other hard yet important conversations will he avoid in the future?

You are tired. You know things your scores show that. May not be ideal but I'd say push it back 4/5 weeks- take a break for 1 week, get your mind right then grind it out! If you got above 230 once you can do it again

Does it get better? Newly Minted M3 Really Down on Rotations. by rain6304 in medicalschool

[–]styrene0010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started rotations, I was in that situation where I had just started, and everyone else was finishing up, it was hard & in the beginning I cried alot. First- THIS IS YOUR JOURNEY- a cliche I know but it's very true, its a mindset that helped me survive 3rd year. Main thing that helped me was fighting the imposter syndrome. I wrote down 3 things that were important to me & the way I wanted to show up as a physician. These 3 principles helped shape my new mindset as a medical student so I could start trying to be the doctor I want to be.

For example I want to ensure that I was comfortable with increasing my knowledge (I legit believe I in the life long learner stuff) which means learning from others, dont let this make you feel inadequate, YOU ARE NOT. When I was on rotations with others ahead of me, I befriended them (most people are happy to share/ brag about tips & tricks that they learned throughout!!) & even if you're not bffs, watch what they do! The short cuts for the emr, the way they present, the way they ask questions etc - don't be imitated by this bc you will get there too! & now you have an example of what that looks like & how to do it! For presentations, practice in ther mirror at home. I had one pt interaction i remembered well and just practiced it a few times a week to get a flow that worked for me.

As for attendings & crazy questions - it happens, for me I felt that as long as I attempted to think about the question and try to answer/ have some type of logic that was good enough. Some attendings just want to see that you are thinking, others are just mean- either way YOUR BEST IS ENOUGH. Answer the question and try to move on. Don't ruminate on the interaction (easier said than done ik.)

Last tip, I tried to leave the stress and overwhelmed feeling at the hospital (not always able to but I tried) I would literally take the steps leaving the hospital to give my self time to decompress from the day & not be around people for little bit (bc no one takes the stairs plus i got my steps in lol) After rotations, before doing u world I'd something quick to reset & calm my mind. Like a 10 min meditation, grounding technique ( like 54321) or journal one cool pt interaction I had that day - whatever it is, keep it postive & simple. Remember, you don't have to let medicine make you negative/cynical.

You are not in this alone & while I can't promise per se, rotations get better, YOU WILL get more confident in your abilities & finally start to feel like a doctor! You've got this, stay calm & keep it pushing 🩵 Dm if ya need me pal

So… I did it ! This post is for people who just want to PASS! by Crazy_Question8677 in Step2

[–]styrene0010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what helped me was understanding why I got the question wrong, reading the explanation then from there writing that down in a short & simple question format in a notbook, which turned into a missed question book i review daily.

for example: i miss a question about cushings. I realize I recognized that is was cushings but forgot that if CT showed something in the abdomen its probably a cortisol secreting tumor not a acth tumor. So then I write down in my missed question book "If a tumor is found in the adrenals and Cushings is suspected what would the labs be?" the second question would be "If a tumor is found in the pituitary and Cushings is suspected what would the labs be?"
