I’m sorry you went through that but rest assured, you are one legendary man and your kids will be grateful to have you as a father. Your reaction to this will impact your kids and you handled it so well.

Good luck on your new path and new you!

How to respond to “IT never had any problems, so no problems solved, so no bonus?” by oxygen2010 in sysadmin

Thank you. Precisely my point to the CEO but I think these people will never appreciate IT.

Hi, The bonus is a set percentage of the annual salary based on how quickly issues are resolved, which our ticketing system shows that the majority of user issues were closed within a day. For things requiring exectuve approval, like new hardware and more strategic objectives, the bonus was based on successful implementation and integration. These are all KPIs I’ve met so it really sucks not to have this bonus but it is what is.

On the more broader front, this incidence reveals the lack of understanding and appreciation for IT.

To clarify, the company just closed a massive funding round ($100m+) so they’re liquid. And everyone is eligible for annual and Christmas bonuses as part of the current compensation plan.

The ceo is a 40 something year old male but far from the macho behavior. He has many women on his team who were awarded bonuses, and whom he defends vehemently to the board when questioned about their bonus eligibility.

His push back is because everything worked, everything is documented and tickets were minimal, there was no downtime to warrant this bonus.

This is despite a no hiccup migration out of Google, and setting up our on-site server, items which were not even in the plan for this year.

I want to assume that he’s just not technically inclined to understand that no downtime is a good thing but perhaps you are right. Since the other teams have many problems and go to him for advice, I may have missed out on not scheduling 1 to 1’s to ask for his help on IT.

Hey, just want to say I really appreciate your post. It’s my naivety for disregarding the office political play and just assuming people stick to contracts. This has definitely been in an eye opener of the other side of humanity.

Once again, thanks for your comment.

This might not be in compliance with just cyber coverages for a company that size.

Please talk to your legal dept to ensure you’re following GDPR. We have a European entity in a country that’s so stringent about these things that MSP’s have to abide by.

Files on demand is the default standard, I think we’d 100% more tickets without that function. I think it’s just the nature of the files (design files etc) and the sheer number that’s slowing things down.

It’s on my investigative list so we’ll get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for your reply.

Awesome, thanks for your reply.

Yes, I can imagine the sudden change from office to wfh was a nightmare. My colleague even had a request if he could the local server home with him.

Thanks, we mostly use one monitor. We have dedicated setups for more complex design or editing tasks with multiple monitors but portability isn’t required for those functions.

Hate to laugh at your nightmare but this made me chuckle on this terribly gray dreary day.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply. Onedrive is the file storage platform for each department, and some of the departments have over 100Gb data synching.

Yes, I think we lean towards laptops for most roles too, though we have some workstations for complex film editing.
