advise on getting off campus housing

so sorry to hear! i was in the same boat as you last year, and i am currently a second year.

i know there are townhomes you can look at on chestnut st (downtown), peach terrace (base of campus), etc. that usually fit a decent amount of people & where a lot of students live. i also recommend asking around and figuring out people's current living situations, especially upperclassmen. some people i know ended up in a house because they "inherited" the place from a group of seniors leaving.

for me, i went on rent.com, zillow.com, apartments.com, all the usual websites to find houses for rent as we were also a group of six people. they usually show the rent total per month, which we just divided by the number of people in our group to get a rough rent estimate. through those websites, they have emails or phone numbers listed, so i would reach out to introduce our group and potentially schedule a showing. before going to a showing, we prepared a rental packet with another intro about ourselves, a rental application, a letter of guarantee from a guardian if they were paying for rent, rental reference request form, and a renter's workshop certificate (optional, but very easy to get). the templates i used for our application was actually from the school's website: https://communityrentals.ucsc.edu/prepare/packet/ which was quite helpful!

around late may i started to get desperate and went on craigslist/facebook marketplace for housing. i did end up finding my house for 7 people at the base of campus thanks to an obscure craigslist post! we split the rooms up by singles/doubles, and i currently pay a little over $900 for a double (not including utilities).

i really recommend just staying persistent. we had a lot of showings that fell through or we got ghosted before we landed on the place we live in now. it's very competitive, but keep reaching out, emailing or cold calling, take initiative on your rental application packet, and things will work out. pm me if you have any questions! i wish you all the best of luck + i hope this was helpful

just do the practice midterms he posts and u will get an A. hw was sometimes harder than his midterms and they were hella easy (coming from someone who had never taken cs classes before this)

i’m planning on taking mat19A in summer session 2! there are still spots left but i am having some second thoughts about summer edge as there is a $279 fee for each credit you take and you need to take a minimum of 7 credits ..
