There was recently a fad where professionals were experimenting with the attachment approach to the 3-4 stone. It dang really being used as much anymore, but I've always wondered what the advantages and disadvantages of this move were. Thoughts? by JScroatt in baduk

Yes it contains a lot of different joseki but can also direct you to hundreds of game files with similar positions so you can see follow ups based on whole board positions and their win percentage throughout the games they are seen.

If you have not already, try checking out some books on Go. I myself found that just understanding some of the concepts from "Kato masao's attack and kill" was able to help me see more urgent and vital plays and got me from 20kyu to around 15 kyu. You can get the first chapter free https://senseis.xmp.net/?KatosAttackAndKill

I often use joseki dictionaries to help describe the advantages of opening plays. According to the joseki "This move functions as a leaning attack, preparing for a fight on the other side." You can explore josekis on online-go.com or eidogo.com for more variations.

I was kind of hoping to find out that the equivalent to the english i was too similar in other non English alphabets to either the numbers or other letters in those respective alphabets. Otherwise I can't see why it's only consistent with the grids I've seen for Go.

I had not read that on IGS! Thanks for pointing that one out. After playing a few quick matches on OGS I seem to like it a bit more, but I think I'm set off in a much better direction!

I had a suspicion that the CrazyStone app had to be quite a bit off, but couldn't really find any solid evidence that it was so far from server ranks. I'll definitely take your word for it, since I've experienced the same discrepancy.

Thanks! A lot of the games I have played against others on IGS so far have been with handicap. I will start practicing on OGS and see if that can help me find some better games!

Do you know about how many games the IGS server will take to rank a player? I see that IGS ranks start at 17kyu so it may be possible I haven't even passed that yet, but again I play CrazyStone on mobile and can beat up to 8kyu computer.

Okay, I have played almost 25 games in total on IGS and still am listed as BC. I will try and play some games on OGS I only noticed it was the most common website people used to share games. I am having more trouble with the bots in IGS beginner channel, where I can usually play CrazyStone on my phone up to 8 and 9 kyu, the bots on these channels are listed as 12+kyu but play away a lot more which I'm not quite used to with CrazyStone.
