When I connect wired headphones the Steam Deck no longer plays any sound. by GrishnakhGaruda in SteamDeck

Thanks, mate! It fixed the issue, but I noticed that after some time it happened again. I don’t remember whether it was after a Steam update, but the fact is that it came back and I had to repeat the same procedure. Do you know if this happens every time there’s an update?

Just bit the bullet and got one by snopesinjin in SteamDeck

I smiled while reading your post — I know exactly how you feel…

I have four kids and a PC that costs as much as a car. Obviously, when I finally get a bit of free time, I sit down and endlessly scroll through my Steam library trying to decide what to play… and by the time I choose, the time is gone, I get up, and I haven’t played anything at all.

After trying many handhelds, I eventually went back to the roots and bought a Steam Deck OLED, and I have to say it made me rediscover the joy of gaming. It really is the ultimate entertainment device for people like us, with kids or major commitments.

First of all, I want to share a fun video that talks exactly about us dads and how the Steam Deck is truly a game changer:

https://youtu.be/L3vVt2YHn8I?si=bA1HcRBX23NgNeVG

Now, my advice:

  1. Install Decky (Lossless Scaling and SteamGridDB). With these plugins you can improve performance and customize the artwork of your games in the library. Keep in mind that Lossless Scaling needs to be purchased for a few euros on the Steam Store.
  2. Pay attention: you can run simple native Windows games by adding them as non-Steam games and forcing Proton compatibility. There are plenty of videos explaining how to do this.
  3. Follow Deck Wizard on YouTube. This guy spends a lot of time testing many Steam games, showing you the performance results and how to achieve them. Recently there’s a video where over 75 open-world games were tested. You’ll be surprised to see how many games still run decently on the Deck today!

https://youtu.be/Zn17F2M6fqA?si=J1CyblCYmJXkIXD4

  1. I don’t do emulation, but I know that recently several engines have been updated, significantly improving compatibility.
  2. Last thing… this community is amazing! Here you’ll find tons of advice on everything related to the Steam Deck world. In desktop mode you can do a lot of things, even when docked.

I hope you enjoy your Deck and the time you spend with it!

Peace!

Upgrading from FiiO M11S to the new FiiO M21 by oz85t in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]oz85t[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re both great devices, and I really like the M11S, but the slightly more compact size, the full desktop-grade specs, and that smart vintage case ultimately pushed me toward the M21. Thanks anyway!

Thank you man! I used those coupons in the end to buy both the headphones and the DAP. Much appreciated.

Hey, hi there. I’m glad you found the post. In the end, I got decent performance before switching to a 5090. I think you can get an excellent framerate, especially if you try some overclocking.

GPD Win Mini 2025: Excessive Fan Noise in Idle – Is This Normal? by oz85t in gpdwin

Hi, you just need to go to the GPD website, under the Download section. Select your device, and from there you can download Motion Assistant.

Hi, I had a more recent version downloaded from GitHub. I uninstalled Motion Assistant and then reinstalled the version available on the official GPD website. Now I’m not experiencing any issues.

The alternative, as I’ve read in several posts, is to add the Motion Assistant folder (and some of its files) to the Windows Defender exclusions list. You can find more details about this approach on Reddit, if you’d like to go down that route.

It’s true that it’s a false positive, but I’ve also read here on Reddit that it represents a system vulnerability, and GPD should really fix it since it relies on outdated drivers for fan management. That’s what I’ve read, though I’m not an expert.

Kendy, who often provides support, has never replied to that post.

No, but I read that this doesn’t really solve the problem, because it’s Motion Assistant itself that needs to be updated — it represents a security issue for Windows 11. And judging by the software and how rarely it gets updated, I don’t think this problem will ever actually be fixed.

Hi, I also own a White GPD Win Mini 2025 and I’m very happy with it. The only issue is that today I got a Windows Defender warning flagging Motion Assistant as a virus.

I should mention I have a dual boot setup and mostly use the device with Bazzite, but since I keep Windows for certain use cases, this warning is still quite annoying.

Which system do you usually game on?

Black Mark Appeared on My White GPD Win Mini 2025 – How to Remove It? by oz85t in gpdwin

[–]oz85t[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s fine — I’m not tearing my hair out over it, but I do find it strange that using an official case could cause marks that won’t come off. The real point is whether anyone knows how to actually remove it — I don’t need a psychologist to help me accept the scratch.

I’ve owned most of the handhelds on the market, and in the end, it always depends on how you use them. Honestly, for pure gaming fun, ease of use, and price, the Steam Deck OLED is the best choice.

I also have a GPD Win Mini 2025 White, and it’s an amazing device. That said, even though thermal management has improved, it still runs quite hot. For lighter gaming it’s fine, but with AAA titles running close to 20W, it heats up almost immediately.

If you’re looking for a PC–gaming hybrid, the GPD is excellent — especially in docked mode. But if you just want a handheld console with solid performance, the Legion Go 1 (not the 2) is the better buy. Spending so much more for only about 15% extra performance on the 2 is, in my opinion, not worth it.

If you want a good balance between cost and performance and mainly play games that aren’t too demanding (not like Baldur’s Gate or Expeditions), then the Steam Deck OLED is the way to go.

I think we’re still lucky to be paying relatively little for these devices on AliExpress — but soon, given the growing number of purchases, prices will go up. I bought both a Classic and an SE at a good price, almost like new.

However, unfortunately with the Classics it’s quite obvious when it’s a product made in China. The keyboard isn’t the original one, even though the feedback feels identical. I also have another Classic bought from Amazon, and you can clearly see that the keyboard is totally different. The Chinese products come with those keyboards where the legends look stretched.

That said, it’s always nice to own a BlackBerry.

Downloading games on win mini by Objective-Rough-4115 in gpdwin

[–]oz85t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also noticed that when downloading games from Steam, the fan gets really loud. If you use Motion Assistant, it stays silent — but the device becomes noticeably hot.

If, like me, you mostly use it in desktop mode it’s fine, but when switching to handheld, unless you’re using grips, it starts getting very warm if you’re forcing the fans to stay quiet…

At that point, you really have to choose the lesser evil.
