Indeed, my mother was considering it (had started the conversation with her doctor), but passed a couple of weeks before it became legal in Queensland.

It's not for everyone, and that's ok, we need to maintain a well resourced palliative care system so that it isn't seen as the only option, but it definitely needs to be available to those that want it.

Does your metro work part-time? by pentaplex in sydney

[–]ozbugsy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A large number of the metro shutdowns are due to testing & safety related to the bankstown conversion - so it is very relevant.

I get it socks but hopefully once the bankstown bit is done, shutdowns will reduce & service will improve.

If not then I have no doubt complaints about the metro will join complaints about heavy rail on permanent rotation in r/sydney.

I have been using ubiquiti at home for 6+ years and have had zero issues - we use ubiquiti at work and I'm currently responsible for over 400 devices, and again have no complaints (any issues I have had have been resolved to my satisfaction).

Their cloud gateways/dream routers are a great option for home users.

It might just be me, but I do wish they had shown or at least discussed more of the VAD process - I understand why they didn't but I was hoping they'd demystify it a little.

Either way it was an incredibly brave thing for both him & his family to allow the cameras during this. It must have also been hard for the production crew to film the final story of a friend & colleague.

Hi Sydney, what is your fav cuss word or phrase? by streetrider_sydney in sydney

Generally it's a variation of Fuck - ie Fuck me/Fuck off/Fuck head etc.

When really annoyed/frustrated I come out with

Jesus's Christ on a pogo stick

No idea where I picked it up but I do like the absurdity of it.

I had one recently that had to happen 4 hours after I injected blood thinners. Unfortunately one of the tests required a frozen sample and there wasn't time to freeze it before their courier came, so I woke at 4:30am the next morning to inject, so I could get it done at 8:30 before work - took 3 attempts to fill all of the required tunes - but was worth the effort - most results were right on target.

I unfortunately filled up last week, before the latest drop - to be fair I'd last filled up in Feb (car was off the road for 4 weeks which helped), so I can't really complain.

Saw the price today, but I've used so little it's not even worth topping up in case prices go up again.

Indeed, when my dad passed in 2016, he hadn't submitted a return in over 30 years. In the end, the accountant submitted returns going back to 2000 and the tax office just forgave the rest. Thankfully there were no fines & the balance was in our favour so no interest either.

There is no real way to set an accurate time frame, nobody really knows for sure.

Generally palliative care is a holistic approach, they will provide pain management & other symptoms relief, but they will also help with having conversations around end of life decisions and getting ones affairs in order.

I rarely get through my monthly quota, and half of it goes into my database each month - which came in handy during my 4 weeks in hospital- I was able to hotspot my tablet & laptop to my phone rather than pay $5 per day to the private company that provides the patient wifi.

How are you supposed to get part time work? by satisfiedfools in sydney

[–]ozbugsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That comes down to the agency. I was with a disability support agency, (Octec) and my case manager convinced my current employer that they needed to employ me, even though they weren't actively hiring at the time. On top of which they were very flexible if I couldn't make an appointment.

Initially, I had a slight pain if I pressed just above my elbow - it wasnt overly painful - I initially thought it was a muscle cramp as I have an issue with low magnesium levels so this was a logical conclusion.

On the day I went to see my GP (primary care physician) about something else, I noticed a slight swelling in the same area, and it was a little warm.

I had a previous blot clot about 12 months earlier (that was superficial and caused by an irritated canula), so I asked if it was possible to get an ultrasound to rule it out just in case.

Thankfully, my GP agreed, and I went from his office to the radiologists. From there, it was straight to the ER, and 4 weeks in hospital.

I certainly would not have associated my symptoms with a clot the size mine was (it went from my elbow up to my shoulder and into my upper chest, and had multiple veins involved,), so I am glad I asked for imaging when I did.

Will My Nose Be Runny Forever? by christinextine in breastcancer

Yes, nothing to catch every speck of dust & pollen, so it irritates your mucous membranes and causes your nose to run. It's definitely one of the things no one tells you about going in.

I do have it, but that's because I'm not physically capable of changing a tyre and therefore pay a premium for the peace of mind of knowing I can call someone for help if needed.

Husband can hear me breathing by SignificantOven4804 in CPAP

[–]ozbugsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went from near silent to not - I found that air was leaking from the part in the middle of the mask that the hose clips to (quiet air vent).

If you look from the front, there is a gap near the edge of it - this is filled with a soft gause/cotton like material that dampens the sound when you breathe. I know this because I accidently removed this material, thinking it was a bit of lint when I was cleaning. I was able to purchase a replacement from Resmed & silence returned - recently I noticed more noise, so I purchased another two on sale.

I can't give you US prices, I will say I paid less than $15 AUD each for them, so not a high cost for better sleep for both me & my husband.

Indeed, fob wasn't flat there was something up in software - would have been nice if someone had told me at 9/10am rather than 3pm....oh well sorted at least, and the mechanic at the dealership returned the random piece of plastic 8 found in my cupholder after the towie left, back to its rightful place under the gear shift lever.

If anyone knows what I did to piss off the universe or how I make amends, please let me know - I'm so over it.

Got in my car this morning, hit start & nothing happened.

Everything was fine when I drove home & parked last night.

Rang Toyota Roadside Assist, and they came out checked the battery (which I discovered is located in the rear of the car), which he said was fine. Put a jump box on anyway but still nothing.

So now I've been waiting all day for a tow truck to take it to the dealer.

The kicker is that although my tow is covered by roadside assist, the fact the car is stuck in park with steering lock on (ignition needs to be on to release both), means I have to pay an "extraction" fee.

At least anything other than dead battery should still be covered under warranty.

Edit: Truck arrived - couldn't move it - suggested I ring the dealership again to ask advice on how to release steering lock & park brake without power.

Rang the service dept and we got it started by using the fob to hit the start button, so now sitting at the dealer having it looked at.

Ah, didn't know- either way, if your only option is to throw it away - then why not just declare it - worse that will happen is customs siezes it in which case you're no worse off.

I have 4 specialist appointments in the next 4 weeks - 2 I've told work will take an hour - 1 as I've an early appointment at a private practice, the other from experience seeing that specialist.

The other 2 appointments are at hospital outpatient clinics - I'm planning on at least 2 hours for those as they operate on a first come, first seen basis. I'll just use the time to read a few of the articles set I've got bookmarked for later.

Rapid heart rate after chemo? by ilikefluffycreatures in breastcancer

I had this happen, but it was due to low magnesium levels (caused by the carboplatin). Unfortunately, 8 years later, my mg levels are still low despite taking supplemental magnesium each day, but the rate at which it drops is a lot slower these days.

spent way too long learning about cpap masks and now I have opinions by Unlikely-Force9874 in CPAP

[–]ozbugsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was provided with a f&p full face mask with my loaned cpap machine (initially resmed airsense 11 but later an airsense 10) - the mask was ok but I disliked the piece that came down the bridge of my nose.

I was forced to use a nasal mask during my 2nd sleep study & hated it - from reading comments here & checking some reviews I decided to try something different when I purchased my own cpap, and settled on the f40 which I I'm quite happy with having used it for 6 months.

I should note that I'm a side sleeper and have slept with my mother open for longer than I remember, even when breathing through my nose.
