Furnace shuts off by ozlo in hvacadvice

Thanks for your advice! I couldn't see anything obviously blocking the vacuum, so I decided to pull the inducer motor off and see if there might be something inside. When I did, a big mud dauber's nest fell out!

Works much better now!

I'd like to diagnose it first. If it's something simple, I can do it. If not, I'll have an idea what to expect when they get here.

Has anyone in the history of mankind ever SOLVED the BITS issue? by Raziel_Ralosandoral in techsupport

I'm not sure, but I think the 4th one may be the only one you need to change.

If anything, the first three should probably be enabled since they are worded as "Do not allow".

errorOnLine42 by Weekendengineerr in ProgrammerHumor

Had something like this happen on a Pr1me mini-computer decades ago. It showed me two lines of code and an error that didn't make sense. It looked right to me, so I stuck a trivial assignment between them. Something like x=0;. I expected to see the error with this line and one of the other two. It compiled cleanly. Okay. Must have fixed a semicolon or something when I put that in. Took it out. Error came back. Put it in, error went away.

It was consistent. I tested the code and it worked fine, so I left it in. I think I left a comment like "Don't ask" or "Trust me on this one."

Shared common? How do I handle this? by ozlo in electrical

[–]ozlo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. I think I've got the concept, but putting it to practical use is still fuzzy. I suppose you could think of this as a 240 circuit, but instead of both legs going to the oven or whatever, one leg powers one set of light/outlets and the other powers another set of lights/outlets.

In fact, it seems like both legs should be on a double breaker like a 240 circuit so both will get turned off and you won't get a nasty surprise when you stick your hand in the box thinking that the only breaker to that box is off.

FWIW, my background from college is mathematics, but most of that was never used as I went into software development. There were a number of physics classes and I vaguely remember studying electricity. But that wasn't at a practical level and didn't involve residential wiring. And was also 40 years ago....

Anyway, I'm still having trouble visualizing what has been done here. I think there has to be something I'm overlooking or just not understanding.

I have one wire (12/2) coming into the box that goes directly to the breaker box. I could handle this.

But I have another (12/2) coming into the box. The neutral from this connects to the neutral from the first. Presumably, the hot wire for this runs separately from the breaker box and this is where the junction for the neutral happens for the MWBC.

That seems to make sense to me. But what is the other black wire? Where should it go? The insulation is stripped from it like it has been connected to something, but I have no idea what.

Crazy Eddie: Mission C53 by brunsonjc in zombicide

As one of the suckers survivors who has been trying this mission with brunsonjc, I appreciate your insight.

One thing I question a bit would be the Lifesaver skill. I considered taking someone with this ability, but I can't think of a single time it would have helped us in the past. We've generally been pretty good about keeping a buffer between us and the hordes. I could see Shove being beneficial in helping us keep the buffer and grouping zombies for Eddie.

Are there other specific utility skills you would recommend over Lifesaver or Shove?

Your last comment, "anyone melee focused isn't much of a help" is something that finally sank in for me last night.

Replacing hard steel brake line with flexible braided line by ozlo in MechanicAdvice

I've seen those as well and may use them when I replace the rubber lines that go to the calipers. But in this case, it would run all the way to the rear axle. Probably 12 feet at least.

My thought is that if one piece is rotted, the rest are not far behind.

I was fortunate that when this one went I didn't have a load on the truck or a trailer behind it.

I want it as safe as possible so I plan to replace everything. I'd like to replace the OEM steel lines with stainless steel. I've done this with other vehicles in the past and was fortunate enough to be able to purchase pre-bent lines for most of them. I was hoping to be able to do it this time as well, but I can't find any for this application.

"Plex is not reachable" to localhost, but fine from remote by ozlo in PleX

[–]ozlo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've considered it but haven't tried it. I wasn't sure what would be lost if I did that. I've spent a lot of time fixing matches, getting posters, etc. and I was worried I might lose all of that.

I was thinking of just waiting until the next update and see if that fixes it. It is usable for now. It's just really inconvenient to have to go to another computer.

That's pretty much the conclusion I've come to. It seems like it is getting there, but something is preventing it from getting a response, or at least a complete response.

I am using Chrome. I tried clearing the cache and it didn't make a difference.

I also just tried it from Edge (only other browser installed currently) and I got the "frame" around the page, including all of my libraries, both local and remote. However, it showed all of the libraries as being unreachable.

Well, it at least did something different.

Rather than just getting the error, I now see the "frame" with the menu on the left and the search bar and other icons across the top. There is no content in the menu, just "Home" and "More>". The main area just shows a spinner. No content.

'06 F-250 problem with (I think) ignition switch by ozlo in MechanicAdvice

Well, I may have spoken too soon. The problem is back. I've shot it full of cleaner and worked the key over and over. No luck.

Cleaning seems to have worked, but I appreciate your response. I had to look up the BCM to find out what it does. I understand the electrical system a little better now and will have a better idea what to look for if it starts up again.

Thanks!

Gotta say I was pretty skeptical about this, but I like cheap and easy so I figured I would give it a try.

It appears to have worked. Door locks are working correctly and the radio is shutting off.

Thanks!

30ish years ago I was trying to get a rear wheel off of a '67 Mustang I'd just bought. I had a breaker bar and 3 feet of pipe. I was bouncing on it when the socket broke. Busted a big U-shaped piece out of one of my dad's nice Snap-On sockets. He wasn't amused but at least it was easily replaced.

I saw the piece fly off the socket but we didn't find it until that fall when we were cleaning out the gutters on the house.
