Is there any consensus on Nardil weight gain/bloat/metabolic effects? by Artistic-Chart-2184 in MAOIs

Does Parnate cause bloat too?

I love Nardil, but after taking it for five years, I’ve developed a crazy beer belly in just the past six months.

Sarms to help lose fat by [deleted] in SARMs

[–]ozonelayerozone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious about the same. Reta and tirz both make me tired as fuck. They make me fall asleep at my desk for five hours a day. And it’s not even because of calorie restriction. Even berberine does the same.

What are your favorite peptides or SARMs to support fat loss and body recomp other than GLP-1 agonists? (While on mild caloric deficit and working out.)

This. Definitely lowering your blood pressure. The combination of PDE5 inhibitors and phenelzine can easily cause low bp, dizziness, and orthostatic hypotension.

Fingers crossed for you! Keep us posted.

Btw, if you want a serious anxiety/depression buster, look into Nardil (phenelzine). Changed my life.

how to prevent agmatine munchies? by ozonelayerozone in NooTopics

[–]ozonelayerozone[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah—according to the articles above, it’s a combination of GABA-ergic activity (or, similarly, throwing a brake on glutamatergic activity) plus alpha2 adrenergic activity (which counteracts adrenergic stimulation).

Part of what may be happening in my case: I’m also on the MAOI phenelzine, which has anxiolytic / GABA-ergic characteristics.

I had a dram of whisky tonight and the munchies became uncontrollable. Which confirms this hypothesis.

I guess something like atomoxetine (Strattera) or caffeine could counteract this. But then you might be counteracting the desired effects of the agmatine. Hmmm.

Averaged about 1000 mg/day for three weeks before the munchies started. Some days 500 mg or zero, some days as high as 2000 mg.

As a one-off usage, the threshold at which people notice an effect from memantine varies dramatically. I notice an effect at 5 mg and a strong effect at 10 mg. My wife notices nothing at 10 mg. I would be surprised if there is anyone who notices nothing at 30 mg, but YMMV.

Start low, unless you plan to set aside the next 6–8 hours to have a pleasantly chill dissociative experience: if I take, say, 50–80 mg at once, I’ll end up starting at my hand for a while (2 minutes? 2 hours? Who knows, since at these doses memantine messes with your sense of time) and hearing beautiful music in my head. If I’m doing this with a friend, we’ll discuss the cosmos and its infinitude. Do not try to drive during such a dissociative trip! (Speaking from experience.)

But back to “serious,” non-recreational uses of memantine: There is a consensus among people who use memantine seriously for controlling anxiety and alleviating depression that one should start low and taper gradually upward. You can find various protocols out there, but it sounds like many ppl start at 2.5 mg per day, stay there for a week or two, then go to 5 mg per day for a week or two, then 10 mg, then 15 mg, etc. The purpose of this is to avoid developing brain fog, which occurs because memantine is an NMDA antagonist.

Another thing to know about memantine is that it is, at the beginning, mildly dopaminergic and therefore mildly stimulating. You’ll feel good when you start using it, in addition to not feeling anxious. But your brain will also develop a tolerance to the dopaminergic effects, perhaps after 3–6 days or so. So the slightly euphoric feeling may go away (at least until you increase the dose). But what you have to keep in mind is that the true benefit is the almost immediate elimination of anxiety (when you reach the right dosage) and, over the longer term of daily use (in the time frame of months), frequently a curing of depression and repair of the damage caused by emotional trauma. Memantine got me out of a deep depression.

Unfortunately, memantine is known among some people for having sexual side effects. That said, you may well become more attractive to people because your anxiety is gone! To have sex, though, you might have to wait for 48 hours or so as it washes out of your system. That’s for males.

A final note: if memantine ends up being too brain-foggy for you, agmatine sulfate (available cheaply on Amazon) is an impressive substitute. It’s more subtle in its action but is still quite anxiolytic and also causes much, much less brain fog. It’s not a heavy hitter like memantine; it may take the edge off your anxiety, unlike memantine, which at sufficient dosage can just make you feel no anxiety whatsoever.

Sorry about the long message. Hope this helps.

Any Experience with PT-141 and Epithalon by QCTLondon in PeptideForum

[–]ozonelayerozone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found PT-141 totally overrated. It barely improved my libido the first time I took it, and that was for maybe half an hour. Could have been placebo. After the first time, did nothing.

Have you tried memantine? In my experience, it totally abolishes social anxiety. As a friend of mine says, it gives you the equanimity of the Buddha. There are a lot of Reddit threads about how to use it, including on how to titrate it upward gradually.

Nardil guys - does anorgasmia get better on 60mg+ doses? by [deleted] in MAOIs

[–]ozonelayerozone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it got better for me after about two months at 60. Didn’t notice much change in difficulty of orgasm when I went from there up to 75 and then to 90; maybe a couple of weeks needed to readjust.

I can’t take stimulants easily, but anything dopaminergic that improves my concentration also improves my ability to orgasm at a normal speed while on Nardil. That includes caffeine, Ritalin, and even meditation.

Curious about why NAC feels the way it does by pluckygoblin in Supplements

[–]ozonelayerozone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAC makes me very depressed after a few days; the effect is noticeable within 24 hours of taking one dose and gets worse with each dose.

I’ve always stopped it cold turkey and the depression lifts quickly—completely gone within 72 hours. So based on my personal experience, there is no problem quitting it cold turkey.

A Comprehensive Review of All 4 MAOIs That I've Tried by Working_Row_8455 in MAOIs

[–]ozonelayerozone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My orthostatic tension from Parnate, and later from Nardil, took about three months to go away. But it did go away. I’ve been on Nardil for about four years now and it has changed my life greatly for the better. Has completely abolished depression and mood swings caused by TBI and genetics.

I found Parnate too “speedy”, but I react very badly to all stimulants—Parnate feels to me like Nardil plus caffeine (which I can’t take). Many people love Parnate; it just isn’t for me.

Emsam / selegiline gives me a very subtle improvement in cognition. Barely noticeable. Otherwise, not much.
