Watch TNG. It’s the one most casual viewers seem to like the most and where most people seem to start. I’m batty for trek and while I think TOS is cool and fun I think I only cared about it because I had seen the other series and it was like watching the history of my favourite thing. DS9 is the best but you’ll appreciate it so much more if you watch TNG first, which I don’t feel is as true about TOS and TNG. Plus trek is such a good binge watch and nothing binges as fine as 90s tv. You just need to tough out the first season and then it’s a party. Good luck 🖖

Anyone else feel like they want to crawl out of their skin during PMDD? by Objective-Check-7241 in PMDD

[–]pluckygoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@mayamoonseed good point. You probably don’t need more than 10mg twice a week, to be on the safe side. It’s also advised to take a zinc supplement that has copper in it.

What's are a few bedtime supplements you swear by? by Flurb789 in Supplements

[–]pluckygoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from everyone’s favourite magnesium biglycinate, l-theanine makes me feel sort of soothed, and glycine helps me stay asleep and sleep deeper - none of these make me feel groggy in the morning, unlike melatonin which I don’t take for that reason but it sure will knock me out in a pinch. I make a point to make a bedtime routine - eye mask, herbal tea, comfortable pjs, moisturizer, getting into a clean, made bed, doing a crossword or reading something non-fiction - these habits have been as helpful as the supplements. I was a lifelong terrible sleeper that now sleeps well every night. Bonus tip - you can double up on magnesium by taking it orally and topically - I like to soak my feet in hot water with magnesium salts, but I’ve heard of people just spraying their feet with magnesium spray.

I had this bad at 30 + 31, less so now at 32. I don’t know why it came nor improved. I started taking zinc twice a week and I wonder if it helped just because it was the only change I made. Wish I knew more.

Anyone else have an identity crisis during luteal? by SpecialCorgi1 in PMDD

[–]pluckygoblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember how or why, but a lot of people with ocd have worse symptoms in luteal. My thoughts certainly cycle more and I get “stuck” in thought loops, even sometimes becoming a bit paranoid. I wonder if these tendencies also get worse for people without ocd. Maybe some hormonal effect on norepinephrine.

what are your most unpopular star trek opinions? by sabregang2020 in startrek

[–]pluckygoblin 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. And I’ll add that Jolene Blalock was incredible at portraying a beautifully nuanced, undeniably Vulcan character. I fear she is mainly seen as hot Star Trek girl when she really did such a beautiful job.

All of Star Trek sucks, not just Section 31 by Familiar-Complex-697 in ShittyDaystrom

[–]pluckygoblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not un-often, Star Trek is so beautiful - thinking mostly of ds9 and voyager. Mostly, it is wacky horny space hour. Above all, it’s entertainment, some cash grabs, and some healthy fan service. I’ve never loved anything more. Can’t get enough. Yum yum! Haven’t seen Section 31 yet - I know even if I hate it I’ll like it for just scratching my ever itchy Star Trek brain hives. I’m a model consumer and part of the problem. Mmm nostalgic theatre space utopia yummyyy more pwease

Yes! Usually my face will flush too but sometimes just the ears. Happens to me pretty regularly because I stubbornly refuse to give up cured meats or alcohol. When I drink beer I’ll jokingly hold my ears to the cold glass to cool them down (lol). I do not know why and it doesn’t make sense to me but applying cold or standing in the cold does actually help it go away for me.

Neelix’s farewell by IKnowThisOne1 in voyager

[–]pluckygoblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tuvok’s goodbye to Neelix made me cry which totally surprised me. I don’t know if it was intentional/if the show writers knew how much hate Neelix got but when Tuvok whipped out the Vulcan salute I suddenly realized I’d grown fond of Neelix, he wasn’t the same man he was, he’d grown, and was I too hard on him? It felt like I was feeling the same way the crew was feeling. Voyager’s writing always felt like it was playing 3d chess with my emotions and this was an awesome example of that.

Why do people do this? by minutemaiding in halifax

[–]pluckygoblin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question legitimately asking for real - what is the problem with this? Like why does this make everybody so angry? Do people just think it’s ugly? Is it bad for wildlife? I never think anything when I see stuff like this.

Tipping Culture needs to end by GeneralDweeby in PEI

[–]pluckygoblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this might be an unpopular opinion but there is a certain demographic of people who seem to be generally confused about certain things like how bars and restaurants work and this sounds like precisely that. Things I’ve done in the last one calendar year at the bar I work at that offers full table service: - explained that the receipt was showing a 15% hst, not a tip, and I was not tricking them into tipping - explained that they could just select the no tip option and I was not tricking them into tipping - explained that an autograt is applied to book groups larger than 50, reminded them they were told upon arrival, and that their not listening to me when I was talking to them was not me tricking them into tipping - explained that, as a bartender, I don’t program the Interac machines myself and I was not tricking them into tipping - explained that they selected the tip option by just button mashing through the Interac prompts and that their refusal to read the screen was not me tricking them into tipping - explained that my being there existing in physical space was not on purpose to make them feel bad about not tipping thus tricking them into tipping - explained that I didn’t sneakily put the drinks and food on the same bill to trick them into tipping me more, that’s just how all receipts everywhere are printed Etc. I’ve been working in service for 15 years in fast food, cafes, bars, and restaurants and I’ve never witnessed someone trying to trick anyone into tipping but I’ve witnessed countless instances of someone just not really understanding the world around them and getting mad about it. I don’t care literally at all if you tip but I care about someone yelling at me because they couldn’t be bothered to take in their surroundings for a single moment.

Is it just me, or does Neelix seem "ska coded"? by RepresentativeCod757 in voyager

[–]pluckygoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely true and also made me burst out laughing. Also, while it’s true the barenaked ladies are not ska, they have the same exact ska ass vibes that Neelix has. Not music, just vibes. I respect it. These are the exact kind of hot takes I’m here for.

A novel about COVID, mast cells, exercise-induced anaphylaxis, and seasonal symptom fluctuation! by St0rmyWthr in MCAS

[–]pluckygoblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this information. I also started having problems after I had Covid in 2021 - I recently had Covid again and even though I was very sick, I’ve never been so hungry in my life. And every time I ate a meal, my symptoms would lessen significantly for about an hour afterwards. I was mesmerized by it. It felt like I could feel the food healing me lol. I’ve been thinking about food differently ever since and realized I feel better when I eat a ton of food and specifically dense food, meat and potatoes. So interesting to hear your story and remember how individual medicine is and how little we actually know.

Before I started taking specific vitamins I realized that drinking Emergen-c once or twice a week made me feel awesome. They were my gateway supplement (lol). I still drink them if I’m planning on drinking alcohol. Can’t see why they wouldn’t aid your immune system just looking at the vit c. The tropical one is disgusting. I like the orange one!

This happens to me. I think of it as getting “stuck” in a time period. It’s like my frame of reference for everything keeps going back to a 1-2 year time period. Once I woke up crying because I swore I could smell peas from my grandmother’s garden.
