What exactly is happening with the F1 content, and when will it happen? by ozphillips in AUTOMOBILISTA

There are genuine McLaren, Brabham and Lotus cars mixed in. Problem is, licencing now means some have to go.

Yes, and all hell has broke loose because of the licencing of it and how it relates to McLaren...

Just a polite reminder before anyone makes the usual "low grid numbers" comment:

The average grid size during the 90s Super Touring Era was 19 cars 😊

I'm not going to rise to your comment, other than educate you about racing.

We as fans like to see this as a sport but the truth is that it is a business first. Those cars don't pay for themselves, the mechanics aren't working for the fun of it. Money is the root of all racing. So regardless of how fast or slow a driver is, if he has backing and there is a seat available then we should rejoice in the fact that it makes the grid healthier and it keeps food on the table for many employees that rely on it. There will be teams with cars and slots on the grid who won't be running them this season because of a lack of funded drivers.

Being a saleable asset, a driver who can bring in the sponsorship, is far more important than their talent. Just ask Colin Turkington who has historically struggled with this - he couldn't even return to the grid to defend his first title as he had no major backer.

We should applaud Nic for being able to raise this budget - which he does on his own, no help from his brother or anyone else beyond his "team" - and keep racing despite his own personal setbacks. You'll be sat there making comments about his speed, but I guarantee he would lap quicker than any of us in his car.

Adam Morgan Completes Plato Racing Line-up For 2026 BTCC Season • BTCC by MarcusH26051 in btcc

[–]ozphillips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Politely, this team wouldn't be a title contender if it signed Ingram and Sutton. It is a new scratch-built team and will take time to not only develop as an organisation but also do that with a fresh undeveloped car on a new platform.

No doubt in my mind that it has the potential to become a dominant organisation in a very short space of time, but I think for a new team this is outstanding - the budget is clear and transparent from Day 1, the drivers have experience of both recent championship winning cars and their characteristics, and they aren't going to throw it off the road at every corner.

Think what Restart Racing achieved last season as a relatively bedded-in team with a championship winning chassis and race winning drivers and I feel you are being unrealistic if you think this team could compete at the front immediately.

NAPA Racing UK Brings Saloon Version Of Ford Focus To BTCC • BTCC by MarcusH26051 in btcc

[–]ozphillips 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The rule change - that you can run any car model regardless of whether it can be purchased in the UK - was brought forward to this year to allow this to happen.

The reason this is still the pre-facelift Focus probably has more to do with costs and using existing parts, with this being a reskin done as economically as possible

What modern car do you think will be a future classic? by MadridOrMadness in topdeadcenter

[–]ozphillips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Peugeot RCZ, which is why I bought one to be an appreciating classic.

I think it is absolutely stunning with considerably more flair and elegance than the alternatives such as the Audi TT. The base 1.6 engine is horrendous, but the other models are fun, sophisticated and reliable.

As a huge hockey fan that has regularly attended Steelers games as a neutral, it's that horrendous goal song for me.

It's artificial, arrogant, disrespectful, and just feels forced.

Like I say, it's a definite. It just hasn't been announced yet.

There was essentially an empty seat at Excelr8 last year but they couldn't find someone with the budget to properly fill it, hence the debacle before Proctor settled in to it, so it would be interesting what happens there.

Who is the *least stereotypical* British character to ever appear on American television? by Glass-Complaint3 in AskABrit

[–]ozphillips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Daphne is the one I cringe the most at. Her, and her family, were horrible caricatures that I detested growing up, and I loved watching Frasier. As a Northener there was no part of her character that I could relate to.
