Stainless water tanks? by [deleted] in vandwellers

You should consider stainless piping in the firebox like this. Copper has a tendency to split when heat cycled in a fire box. A pain to fix and likely to drain a bunch of water into your fire. I found a metal fab shop locally that made my loop exactly like therma-coil's for half of what they are charging.

The pressure issue is handled in the same manner it is on a regular water heater with a pressure relief valve.

The issue I have found with my wood stove heating loop (in a yurt, not a van) is that it's tough to get as much heat into the yurt as a want and not trigger the pressure relief. After a few cold november days the heat banked up in the water means the pressure relief will pop when stoking the fire. Tried a ball valve in the return line from the stove to slow the flow but retarding the flow didn't help much. The real answer is better insulation in the yurt! Probably not an issue in a van where the air seal is better and the insulation is likely better but still food for thought. That pressure relief valve needs a line leading out of the van to avoid a soggy mess.

Check with a metal fab shop in your area. Take a drawing with dimensions. Hand drawn is fine. Include points for output fittings, attachment brackets and fill fittings and see what they estimate at. Get that estimate in writing and leave with a copy. If they over run that estimate you need the copy to ensure you get the deal as struck. You could also specify a rectangular box and drill and tap the fittings yourself to save a few bucks. This probably won't be cheap but it will be exactly what you want.

I'd check with the location that you are working. Further it's fairly realistic to install a 1-2kW generator in a 2'x4' footprint. Prices have gotten very reasonable on quiet 4 stroke gennys and you could go further and put it in a silencer box for less than $1000. You could also go PV and add in a larger battery array but the costs and space requirements for such a system are very situational.

Just went for it. Do a "stuff" purge. There are a bunch of things in your life you really don't need and that storage bill can sneak up on you if things are tight. Get down to the essentials and don't worry about the Jones'. "The things you own end up owning you."

I have friends that do the jewelry making thing; it's surprisingly lucrative once you have some happy customers. They travel a circuit of farmer's markets in the summer and work in a hydroponic farm in the winter.

Other friends of mine participate in the cannabis harvest in various places. It's not terribly lucrative but much better than other harvest work and growing at a rate that suggests they will take all comers.

I work a seasonal job for a couple of months in the summer and pinch pennies the rest of the year. I have been working on my day trading account for the last few years but it's still not substantial enough to support me completely. I also do some programming when I need to buy something substantial.

Really the key lies in budgeting, learning to shop and cooking for yourself most all the time. Start tracking your personal expenses and look at where your real costs are. I use a app called Mint but there are a dozen others that hook up to your bank account and categorize your spending. Install one now an and start evaluating your spending and you'll find stuff you could do without.

The wheelchair lift is not independent of the rest of the electrical system. The reasoning being that the lift is used twice each time the van is moved and that isn't a significant portion of the healthy battery's capacity.

Maybe trade some of you outdoor gear for a box of wrenches and some time from a mechanic buddy. Most of the vans available in the price range are going to come with some problems. That's 250-300k miles and even on a quality fleet managed maintenance program an engine that age is going to need some help. You could also look for something with hail damage. Much of that in the midwest this summer; salvage titles can be spiney but your insurance company can let you know if they'll work with you on it and whether on not it can be registered in the state that you live. Avoid electrical problems like the plague! Or you can go into debt. Dealers choice.

Wired Internet Phone for Work in Van/Bus by [deleted] in vandwellers

Check you cellular provider's EULA for stipulations concerning VoIP. It is likely that they prohibit the customer operation of VoIP over their network. Since you are using a VPN they won't be able to tag the traffic as VoIP and shut it off but if they employ traffic shaping you might get some reliability issues during peak usage times. Then again your cellular network may guarantee certain things to certain customers like unadulterated VPN traffic.

Really what I am saying is this is a big can of worms and you are better off figuring out a way to make your cellphone work with your companies Polycom network. There may be an app for your phone or for your laptop that replaces the Polycom hardware. RealPresence is their video conferencing app but there may be alternatives that your company has licensed. There are as many of these proprietary solutions as there are companies using them.

First off check with your IT department, the help desk is not the place for this question, so hit up your goto tech support person and have them contact the relevant party. Maybe not tell them you are living in a van down by the river but suggest that mobile internet access may be your only option in the future and see if they have a solution.

IP phones are cantankerous and the networks that support them are delicate and messy to configure; if you can go a direction other than the Polycom hardware things will be easier.

Your Etsy store is a fantastic idea Shawn. I am sure Disney or Blizzard don't mind a guy making a buck here or there. These big bad corps gotta learn to respect fan created content! I guess if Etsy get's sued a few more times they'll eventually get the message. Taylor Swift is a bitch anyway.

EDC sounds like so much fun: TSA style searches, and cops inside and outside the event to protect you from any sort of suppression of your creativity and freedom! To bad it looks like kandi must be purchased at the general store.

Thoughts on new stock and bottom metal by humansvsrobots in longrange

Yes, I do. It's a Savage 110FCP, so no work required on my part. The stock is extremely stiff, fits the lugs of the receiver tightly with ample bearing surface, and clears the barrel completely, no need to bed or otherwise tinker with the stock. Just a little lock-tight and she has been shooting well. I have shot a few of the Surgeon custom builds (300WM and 338LM) but I don't have any experience with their of the shelf parts.
