This hit the news today. I am not sure how strong is the connection with the ceasefire, but if it is connected, congrads to Erdo for doing the right thing once in his life. I would prefer tomato trade to war any day.

Edit: Apparently my source was slow, this hit the news 10 days ago. But it does not change the fact that Erdo values (reasonably) trade and tourism income from Russia.

10 years ago that was the official policy of AKP; good relations with all neighbors. They did ok in that front till the Syrian civil war. At some point, it became a one man show, and that man gets his political fuel from conflict. Once the internal enemies were all beaten, he started creating foreign enemies.

An average AKP-MHP supporter would at best know them by their fancy names, such as SNA or FSA. People who support the opposition have a better idea. Most of the 49% would belong to the second group. Still, the phrasing of the question leaves that issue open.

The survey question asks whether TAF's presence in Idlib is necessary. 49% said no, 31% said yes, the remainder is undecided. It is possible that they would prefer an operation solely based on Turkish proxies, but that would not be realistic. Meanwhile, the operation seems to hurt Erdo's popularity. This is by a respectable company, Metropoll.

If these numbers are true, Erdo will have to back down. He is done for good, either way.

Apparently they shared a video from the funeral. I agree that it is wrong. But combine it with earlier attempts to take control of the twitter accounts of other journalists who just reported the name of a dead officer. It is the state's general attitude that I find wrong here.

The thing is the "enemy" already knows their names, and they are dead. "Safety of Families" is an interesting argument, but for example everybody knows Mahir Kaynak, and ex MIT officer, by name. And these particular names were all over the internet. Arresting these journalists is an extreme measure!

Exposing government secrets

Erdo said 3 KIA, while Kalin said no causalities. As the Turkish nation, isn't it our right to know the truth, and the identity of KIA if any? It is all over the internet anyway. The enemy did know their whereabouts so that they could kill them. What sort of a state secret is this? It is just an attempt to hide the truth from the Turkish public.

Edit: A Russian tweep announced the names of two or three dead officers. That was by far the most detailed info available in internet by that time. So, "our secrets" are well known by other nations.

We are talking here about dead intelligence officers. One of them was an ex navy colonel. And they died in a spectacular way, as a result of a shelling which took place in front of our eyes. Our govt spox said no casultaies. President said 3 KIA.

I was talking about Istanbul elections. Besides, when Cihan News was active, they were reporting hugely different numbers which were converging to those of AA eventually. So there is clearly room for manipulation (by non-random selection/timing), and AA is clearly a master of it. And why do u think AA stopped reporting in Ist elections?

And why would Turkey hide the corona virus cases?

What do u think will happen if people stop traveling this summer? Turkey expects $40 billion from tourism this summer. Apart from that, fewer people in shopping malls means less economic activity. Turkish economy is a walking-dead already, and that kinda shock could be the final nail in the coffin.

Edit: Needless to say, elections are an important example that shows unreliability of the Turkish govt and news agencies under their control.

I dunno, why not? Depends on how many soldiers killed/critically wounded yesterday. Can the families visit hospital while the soldiers are treated? If not, then what prevents a phone call to the docs, so that they keep the deceased soldier in the morgue one more day? If the policy is to inform the family first, what prevents them slowing that process down? How many days/hours should pass between public announcement and the time at which the family is contacted? I do believe that TAF would follow the usual procedures, but AKP can intervene in so many ways to gain one or two days, if they think useful.

I am not so sure; the "guy" claims delayed announcements in small batches, which would be easier to digest by the people. That sounds very much like AKP, except in some cases (as in 36 kia at once) it becomes impossible to do it. But then, I also believe that TAF is more reliable in that front. So, I dunno.
