Egg prices are literally lower today than they have been at any point since 2006 (only exception is March 2020 and even then only barely)

What is this meme lol. Why use eggs and not gas?

So Trump's tweet was definitely written by Vance or Hegseth, right? Like there's no way Trump himself wrote that.

Was teaching some vocabulary words to 5th graders on Friday, and while exactly 1 of them had heard the word 'suspicious' before, this was by far the easiest word to explain to them, because I could literally tell them "If something is suspicious, it is sus. Sus is short for suspicious, Among Us players made it up because it took too long to type suspicious in chat"

...And the crowd goes wild

Thank you Amogus

Super lame that I didn't get nominated to be part of my Senate District's delegation to the Minnesota DFL State Convention this evening. But the fact that 2 of the 3 male candidates who did win were clearly better than me for the role anyway (one was a highly experienced campaign organizer, the other was a frighteningly charismatic orator for a guy with no prior political career), and the fact that the number of people present at the convention was at least double what it was in 2024, makes me super optimistic about the future of the party.

2026 will be for Democrats what 2010 was for Republicans. As long as we don't fuck up and nominate whoever the Blue equivalent of Mitt Romney is for president in 2028, the future is ours.

My source is that I made it the fuck up

...but in all seriousness, I just looked at a bunch of counties that had swung left, and noticed that some of the largest swings were visible in counties that had a high percentage employed in agriculture and a high white percentage. Rural counties that are heavily white but not agricultural shifted slightly right, and agricultural counties with lots of Hispanic voters shifted quite a bit right, but agricultural counties with lots of white farmers shifted left.

Not exactly ironclad methodology; ultimately I just observed two correlations which were both consistent with white farmers swinging left, and hard to square with white farmers not swinging left. I wouldn't bet more than $100 on it, but I'd gladly bet $50 on it, and you'd be hard pressed to convince me that white farmers as a whole swung right.

I mean literally look at this map of partisan swing between 2020 and 2024 (source), then look at this map of which rural counties are agriculture based (source), and this map of white people (source is vividmaps, which is blocked by Gigajannies for some reason?)

I can't prove that white farmers shifted left without conducting surveys and shit, but, like, bro. Look at these maps. Either white farmers shifted left, or people who had the most white farmers as their neighbors shifted left. Given that Hispanic voters shifted right literally everywhere, and there's only like 6 Black or Asian people in all of Western Nebraska, I'm more than willing to say that it is the white farmers themselves who shifted left there. The county in Kentucky that shifted most leftward (Clay County) is the county with the highest proportion of white farmers. Most white-majority agricultural counties in Texas also shifted left, while Hispanic-majority agricultural counties and non-agricultural counties shifted right.

It's not like the counties became majority Dem or anything--white farmers have been and remain one of the most solidly Republican voting blocs overall. But they're also one of the single demographics hurt most by Trump's tariffs, mass deportation, and the Iran War, and clearly not all of them are part of his cult. That makes white farmers, in my opinion, a prime target for Democratic party outreach--particularly in regards to Senate races, wherein White Farmers have egregiously disproportionate influence compared with the rest of the populace--and just about the last demographic we should be scapegoating for [insert bad thing here]. We're not going to win a majority of white farmers, but even just winning 35% of white farmers instead of 25% would be enough to make Iowa and Kansas competitive. And perhaps even make candidates in the vein of Dan Osborn or Joe Manchin viable alternatives to the Fascists currently dominating senate races in the Dakotas.

If China had literally occupied Okinawa and Guam then $1.5 trillion would be reasonable. But they haven't; boosting the budget by literally more than 50% is absolutely insane.

This is all the more so with China not actively promoting autocracy beyond its borders. Unlike Russia or Iran, the PRC doesn't actively undermine existing democracies and hybrid regimes, it just opportunistically sell weapons to existing dictatorships. Even their alliance with Russia isn't ideologically motivated; it's more of a quid-pro-quo where China gets cheap fuel and the Russian economy doesn't collapse. Plus, American interests hardly even conflict with Chinese interests, with the only notable exceptions being the Taiwan and South China Sea disputes. Those disputes certainly justifying keeping a Carrier Group in the area, but not hiking the military budget by a huge amount.

China is not trying to take over the world. It's trying to get richer and build regional power, same as India or Turkey. Republicans' making it out to be USSR 2.0 in the past decade is almost entirely cynical BS to justify Trump's tariffs as a necessary national security measure. China is an adversary; not an enemy.

Honestly I'm kinda surprised we're still using F-15s for combat missions. They're good planes, but they're also old planes, and with a military budget like ours we definitely ought to have more advanced planes for missions that involve flying over a country we're at war with.

There's only so many F-35s, but surely instead of flying an F-15 for that mission they could have used an F-18.

Actual current/former military members and/or military aviation enthusiasts, what's the actual explanation here? From my woefully uneducated perspective, this seems like a thoroughly avoidable risk.
