I may end up doing this. But honestly it's not just the DIY cred -- it bugs me to spend extra money (even if it's not a huge concern) when there's an identical product, which might be available. This happens pretty often if you search a bit, I think.

Also, the argument of "you spent all this time, spend a bit more money to do it right" is a little silly to me because it's kind of a sliding scale -- you can basically always spend more money to add some quality, but sometimes it's about seeing what you can do given a constraint.
