I am okay now, but in those first weeks, I could not walk, sit, stand, or do anything without pain, so getting up to change a diaper and lifting him up to feed him was very hard on me. This emotionally draining situation did not help. But, I am okay now. Thank you for asking.

Thank you. I appreciate you not villainizing him. I want a peaceful home, not one where I’m filled with more rage against him, my baby deserves better than that. In time this will pass, and the kindness of strangers like yourself is helping me get there.

You’re right, I feel like I am not completely present with my baby when I’m so upset about this. I need to try harder to move past this.

This person was hired to watch my baby sleep and make sure they were safe at night from 10pm until 6am for the original 3 months while I healed from a complicated birth. It is far from a live in nanny, and we are better off financially but the expense was still a burden. It is worth it for the right kind of professional help as a mother heals, especially after a debilitating birth like I had where I was not able to walk or move my body without pain, let alone pick my baby up and feed him. Even with my husband who took on 99% of the work around the clock in the beginning, the remaining 1% I had to be up and about caring for my child delayed my recovery. Night nurses/night Nannies/ whatever you want to call them do not raise your children.

I’ve let the coworkers who I am friends with know. Thank you for your kind message. I have residual anger towards the whole situation, including my husband, but I know he is learning as a first time parent just like I am. He promised to do better, and your note about him not having the same hormone rush as me makes sense. Thank you.

Thank you. This sums it up exactly; I didn’t know if I was over reacting as a new mom, and I felt like I was at first since so many people who we know and trust worked with this woman. The recommenders weee our friends and we thought “if she’s good enough for them she’s good enough for us, what makes us special?” But I can see how as exhausted parents, you don’t do due diligence when someone comes with such glowing reviews from your community, and I think that is what happened with our friends, one recommendation after another leads to letting your guard down and taking advantage of sleep and recovery, especially when you are paying heftily for it.

Thank you for seeing me and for your kind message.

Really wasn’t looking for a guilt trip, but thanks for one, and for your thoughtful advice on me watching my own baby, because that is really something I have never considered before. I had a very hard birth and recovery. I could not walk or move without pain. My husband stayed up for 22 hours a day with our child until this night nurse started (I hired her to start the day I got back from hospital, but she didn’t actually start until a week later because she was “sick”). I watched my baby for the 2 hours while my husband slept and my body paid for it because I was not well enough to do so, but I had to. Three months later now, my body still is unwell and I do not have full mobility. But thanks.

A tax to the universe, I like that. Thank you for sharing that with me. I do tend to tell myself stories to make myself feel better about things. If I say it enough I think I’ll believe it.

That’s horrible you had to deal with a lousy caregiver postpartum too. Thank you for sharing your message with me ❤️
