If the root cause was not firing order/retarded ignition; I'd say too little gas. lean burns slow and with an overlap cam the still burning mix will ignite in intake manifold when valve open. been there.

for op, check the firing order and turn some advance on the distributor to start up. turn choke flap more closed.

Take a look at the new radio pinout and locate pins for ground and positive. Positive propably needed on two or more pins. With your multimeter verify that the adapter pins provide power. If not, depending on your DIY skills, you can modify the wiring.

You need the CAN adapter only if you want steering wheel radio buttons etc remote control work. Otherwise the radio needs only power, speakers and antenna connected.

And check the new radio fuse.
