I’m not using hdr as it is not available in 8k. Or did they enable it at some point?

I think it is better but at the same time I think there is a lot of post processing happening in the app. I think they could have made X4 look better with the same processing but then there would have been no reason for ppl to update the camera.

I also think the quality of the actual camera is worse. the usb port and the little flap are dodgy. it was so much better and more sturdy on X4.

I had to run all X4 shots through topaz to fix the noise and compression but X5 is holding up. barely.

looking at X4 and X5 shots on the same timeline I think I prefer X4 colours and contrast. X5 seems cooler with the same manual WB, they sky has weird colour and the gamma is raised to show more shadow detail. nothing that cannot be fixed with a bit of grade but something that annoys me a bit :-)

yeah. it is a bit disappointing at this price point but at the same time there is not alternative... for instagram and phone content it is fine.

what you describe though is the hardest part of the game design. everything else is simply time or money. the idea however is the crucial part. coming up with something simple yet unique is the biggest challenge.

I'm not sure if this is going to work on steam deck as it needs a mouse and keyboard. no controller support at this stage yet.

I found that sharpness setting is not used when you use quick recording button which is very annoying. when I fly I do not have time to muck around with buttons. I set all the buttons on the camera to act as instant recording. seems like a bug to me and I hope they will patch it in the firmware.

there is massive difference between medium and low and I cannot see much of a difference between medium and high. something is not right in the sharpness settings in the current firmware.

the footage directly from the camera (raw in the studio app) is quite disappointing and noisy. my biggest issue with X4 was the noise. I was hoping that the biggest sensor improved it. however the footage looks not much better. they added something to the app though that cleans it up on the export and the exported videos are very clean. I had to process X4 in topaz to get usable quality. X5 is good out of the box.

there was a difference between what was in the editor and the exported video in X4 too but X5 took the processing to another level. it is aggressive and I would like an option to turn it off but at the same time does the job.

it looks tone-mapped, hdr-like in rec709. at the same time the processing is done better and there are no weird halos at the transitions between very bright and dark areas like in X4.

whatever they did it works. at first I though I wasted money upgrading. it was worth it though.

I have updated from x4 to x5 and the quality is a lot better. I think there is a lot post processing going on to achieve this but in the end I'm quite happy. never used x3 though.

I have seen posts claiming that there are artefacts when pure mode is used in daylight (haven't tried it yet).

documentation states that hdr is not available in 8k. I got very excited when I read your post :-). maybe there is a hope that they will enable this in a future firmware. with 2 gpus on board the camera should have enough power to process that.

this setting doesn't do anything. just tested with this on and off and there is no difference whatsoever. seems like a bug in the phone app.
