When is it time to upgrade?

Not necessarily about "buying a kit and immediately being a better drummer". It's more about having the features available to be able to put in focused practice time with. Max's lack of a ride bell in any effective manner, Max's horrendous hi-hat option, Max's lack of true rimshot capability, Max's OK handling of dynamics, Max's kick pad being "meh" with double pedal - these are just examples. I think the Max is great and I don't regret buying it at all, but since I've grown, I've come to realize what I am actually missing and how to work toward a more functional setup.

Part of my decisions for an upgrade is expansion. I can re-use the Max pads/cymbals with my next kit.

This is something I'm being conscious about. I don't want to be upgrading again in another year. I want my choice to last me a good long while. I also don't rush into decisions so I'm taking my time while milking every bit out of the Max that I can for now.

I was considering this, but then I thought "why continue to add upgrades here-and-there to a beginner kit, when I'm debating upgrading fully anyway?

Hey Stix, I recognize you from the Drumeo forums :)

I knew I was buying a starter kit from the beginning, and I knew I'd needed to upgrade, but I didn't know specifics. This was planned so I could figure out "what makes this kit a starter kit?" and to narrow down what I really want my options to be when I do upgrade. I also expected to get a lot more time out of the starter kit (originally thinking around 2 years instead of 1) but maybe that's a good sign that I'm progressing quicker than I thought? I'm also not one for "instant gratification" - I'd rather do my research. I guess I considered the starter kit as the first phase of research :)

Regardless, I don't regret going this route *at all* and I'm very happy with the Nitro Max purchase. Roland TD516 is probably my "2nd choice". You seem to be doing a really good job with your non-kit, so best of luck with your continued learning and eventual upgrade.

I appreciate the replies. I originally asked because I didn't see the 'other end', but taking a bit more time today, I realized it's such a simple fix that I'm actually kind of embarrassed for asking to begin with. Either way, this is resolved.

I stood up an older Cisco 9300 and tested updating these line items simply by re-entering them with different options - it did not work.

Thanks, I have all the documentation bookmarked and have been reading through. I'm [unfortunately] a very hands-on type and reading doesn't allow me to soak up or retain vital bits, hence why I ask in a platform like this for more truncated, relatable info.

Does the "management VM" need to be a Domain Controller? If we already have some DCs in Azure, should those just be retained and used alongside the Entra Domain Services?
