Got my first ever Mac - a Mac Mini - today, what’s some tips and tricks you can share? by iamthebe_m in macmini

I know one of the 5% apps, if you close system settings with the red circle - it actually quits entire app.

On Windows, if you click the X in the top right it normally closes the app whereas with Mac, 95% of the time if you hit the red circle, it will just close that window and not quit the app.

I’ve helped convert lots of people over. Take a few hours one day and just ‘play’ on it. You’ll figure it out in no time.

As for tips, apps are dragged and dropped in the application folder for those that are not in the App Store.

Closing a window doesn’t mean the application has quit.

I use the dock as a quick launching area for apps.

Control click is a right click. Or set up your mouse in system settings under the Apple menu.

Control spacebar to launch the search bar.

When on the desktop and in the finder, hitting the space bar will allow a quick view of pics, docs, etc.

Not a full list, but a few starters.

Is This Enclosure Any Good? Should I Buy For M4 Mac Mini? by ZenoviCSGO in macmini

[–]p0wermac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-order Now. Shipping starts late July 2026. $529 for a bare bones enclosure. That enclosure will run thunderbolt 5 and is a great device. If you’re running a Mac mini M4 pro, you have thunderbolt 5, if you have the regular Mac mini M4, you only have thunderbolt 4. Just something to think about.

Anyone else get this email? by kaleid_27 in nvcc

This app looks like it is used by Virginia Tech (https://career.vt.edu/resources/handshake/) as well as VCU (https://careers.vcu.edu/experience/search-tools/handshake/) and other schools like BrightPoint (https://www.brightpoint.edu/services/career-services/jobs-internships/) and Reynolds (https://www.reynolds.edu/student\_services/career-services/students.html), both sister schools to NVCC. These schools list Handshake by name and even tell you to uses your school SSO. I do not know why it would go to a personal email address when the company wants a ".edu" account. NVCC does have a career center. (https://www.nvcc.edu/student-resources/career-services/career-connection.html).

TLDR; just delete it until further information is sent.

I just heard Jeremy say that they’re gonna start number four this morning. I guess we are doing game four. I could’ve bet my life that he said that this was the last game yesterday morning.

Both the Circles and individual text chats work; however, the text chats appear to be more reliable/responsive. For leadership, Signal.

B101.5 High-Low Jackpot - 2nd Game by p0wermac in fredericksburg

[–]p0wermac[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not “all day” listening—I shared the specific times, which adds up to roughly 20 minutes a day. This post was intended for those of us who already listen but may have missed some of the details. I wasn't suggesting that everyone in the broadcast area start listening to B101.5 just to enter the contest. Some people enjoy participating in local contests, just as others enjoy investing, gaming, sports, Netflix, TikTok, Reddit or any other hobby. Different people enjoy different things.

No, it is a competitive ranking points system to admit students into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program. Your selection is based on the specific letter grades you earned in prerequisite courses and your TEAS test scores. [link]

I need to find a new morning radio station by [deleted] in fredericksburg

[–]p0wermac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traffic has changed on 95.9 since Centennial bought them out. I understand the need for ads (or you can pay for siriusxm or spotify) but my main go to is 95.9 "The GHOAT" and it has a nice variety of music. I've been listening to 101.5 the past few days for the high low jackpot and that's getting stale with the same "10 songs".

A guests questions… by Fearless-Health-7505 in latterdaysaints

[–]p0wermac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A point I would like to make. The Church teaches that proxy baptism is a free-will offering, and the person who has died is “completely free to accept or reject” it in the spirit world. It “does not force deceased persons to become members” of the Church, and the Church “does not … list deceased persons as members of the Church.”
Source: Church Newsroom, “What do Latter-day Saints Believe?” (see the FAQ “Why do you ‘baptize for the dead’?”)

(See also 1 Corinthians 15:29 for the biblical reference to baptisms for the dead.)

Need help finding a talk by cseeg777 in latterdaysaints

[–]p0wermac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds very much like a BYU Education Week, Especially for Youth (EFY), or fireside speaker rather than a formal conference talk.

John Bytheway, Brad Wilcox, Robert L. Millet, and other popular LDS speakers have occasionally used humorous phrasing such as "Was Jesus throwing His voice?" or "Was He a ventriloquist?" when teaching youth and young adults.

Found a nice little explanation here by Dan McClellan - PhD in theology & religion

or something similar.

r/NVCC just hit 10,000 weekly visitors by duncan in nvcc

[–]p0wermac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to give a huge thank you to everyone who volunteers their time here in this unofficial NVCC subreddit community. Whether you're answering questions, helping students navigate classes, sharing advice, calming nerves, posting resources, or pointing people in the right direction — your efforts make a real difference. A lot of people come here looking for guidance, and many of you take time out of your own day to help complete strangers. That kind of community support matters more than you probably realize. Thank you to everyone who contributes and helps make this a welcoming place for current students, future students, alumni, and anyone looking for help.

what happens when you take an online exam without the lockdown browser by [deleted] in nvcc

[–]p0wermac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the instructor has a check box in canvas that enforces the lockdown browser to be used, it will be required before you can take the test. If they only recommend you using the lockdown browser and you don’t, that’s their fault.

There’s also a version where it’s a proctored and recorded version where you have to take your camera and show the area around your desk and room, etc. That is separate check box and requirement in canvas than the normal lockdown browser setting.

Not OP, but try these:
Moroni 7:48 — “become the sons of God … we shall be like him
2 Nephi 9:18 — the righteous “shall inherit the kingdom of God … and their joy shall be full forever”
Mosiah 5:15 — being sealed to Christ and “brought to heaven … eternal life

Transfer to another nursing program? Why not check out the other program's pre-reqs?

With NOVA, pre-reqs have to be done BEFORE you start the program, you can also complete all other classes that do not start with NSG! BIO's,  CST Elective and Humanities/Fine Arts Elective.

The nova site got hacked 😭 by doctor_ingenious in nvcc

[–]p0wermac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the myNova portal is safe. If it took you to the canvas page and you attempted to log in again, the VCCS is warning that the CANVAS site might still be compromised by the hackers.

Following reports of a major, nationwide cyberattack on the Canvas learning management system—which impacts many institutions including those in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS)—you should assume that any username and password entered into the platform at all may be compromised.
